Yeah, those Crossbow guys are nasty, I think a crossbow killed someone during Shakespeare also. There's a pretty low chance of a 7 vs. 1, but they do happen.

Here's a reference for Gaunt. Personally, I've only really read the first book, but I suggest going chainsword and bolt-pistol for weaponry. Not to forget the combat knife.
