Do body parts still reanimate infinitely in evil biomes?
« on: October 22, 2012, 02:11:18 pm »

I haven't played in a while and am wondering if anything about this has changed since the patch that introduced this feature.

Ayup, still around.  Unless you destroy the corpses with magma/a bridge, they'll always reraise.

Some biomes reanimate, some don't. I believe that you can switch reanimation off by genning a world with the 'regional interactions' figure set to 0.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Or process them. Bone bolts can't come back to life, yet.

Lol! That will be Fun!

Urist McCrossbowdwarf shoots his +Zombie Turkey Bone Bolt+ at the target!
The +Zombie Turkey Bone Bolt+ has reanimated!
The +Zombie Turkey Bone Bolt+ hits Urist McCrossbowdwarf in the head fracturing the skull and tearing apart the brain!
Urist McCrossbowdwarf has been shot and killed!

I kinda figured it'd be more like, the bolt animating in the wound and burrowing in to seek fleshy meats, like the brains or heart. Rather like the more horrible types of parasite, except carved from turkey bone.

Buhhhhhh. Gave myself a shiver, that's a nasty mental image.

This is a Dwarven corpse. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of pathetic and menaces with spikes of fail.

*brrrr* Firing squads would be revolting. It's currently how I execute goblin prisoners, but that would be the thing to make me find another method of execution :-\

... What am I saying. I've absolutely mutilated elves in the testing arena. Mental images won't stop me 8)

Bone bolts can't come back to life, yet.
Only think of leather armors turning against their wearer and choking them to death.
Or an entire fortress falling to an siege, because the bolts decide to run away from their owner.

That would be a huge amount of fun.

So what would happen if you killed, cooked and ate plump helmet men in an advanced reanimating biome?

My son, many speak of the honor in war.
My preferred method is to wait until their back is turned, then impale them with a pike held by someone else.
Preferrably from a distance.

Strictly speaking? Nothing: to cook them you'd decompose them into food items (read: butcher). Those items don't have the right tags to be re-animated. Even if they had skeletons, they'd be decomposed down to generic bone item stacks, which again don't have the tags.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.
