Athira Alino, The Plane of DawningWith only two industries under our belt, Workgrowl has already attracted 50 brave souls. There have been two deaths, with more sure to follow as the spirits keep demanding their artifacts be built.
Winter, Year 252 Our ghostly visitor has finally lashed out after floating in the tavern, seemingly harmless, since he appeared. Put a dwarf in the hospital but thankfully thread and cloth were bought when the caravan had last visited. It is an cruel irony that if one of our brave soldiers hadn't lost his leg, I probably wouldn't have bought any.
On a slightly sillier note, our Liason doesn't seem to want to leave. He just stands in the entrance hall, and will occasionally walk out to admire the Trade Depot. We're a bunch of heathens. What's so interesting about us? I'd think the lack of chairs and tables - and oh yeah beds - would be enough to send a sane dwarf home. XD
I hope to have a few leather pieces ready when the caravans return, however. Getting leather from what few animals we have has been slow going. We need better weapons, and more cloth and thread. Unless we get Stoneworking next, the ghosts will be a problem.
Our last failed mood finally died of hunger and thirst, bringing our death count to three. Not bad considering, but right on the tail of his death another dwarf has been possessed. I doubt she'll survive the spirits wrath. Edit: Didn't even last til Spring. She went insane, struck by a fit of melancholy. Also, one of the children grew up.
Current Population: 49 [7 Children]
Deaths: 3
Spring, Year 252 Another mood. This time one of our makeshift doctors. Another child born, as well. It seems we're getting babies to replace our losses at a steady rate.
Current Population: 49 [8 Children]
Deaths: 4
Summer, Year 252 The summer started with tragedy. Our doctor has gone insane and our wrathful ghost picked that moment to attack the Expedition Leader. Ripped his leg right off. He's in the hospital passed out and being patched up by our second doctor. We have a single thread left and some cloth, but I didn't think to buy more than one crutch. Thankfully I did buy those few buckets. As long as others keep giving him water, I think he'll be good until the caravan comes.
Our second ghost has appeared. This one is forlorn. He drifts from place to place aimlessly, and funnily enough seems terrified of our insane doctor. Bolts whenever he gets near.
Autumn, Year 252 Everyone's stopped feeding the Expedition Leader. They still give him water but he is slowly starving. I tried putting a stockpile of food right under him and he refuses to eat. I fear we're gonna lose him. It's late Autumn and no caravan so far. Getting really antsy.
Winter, Year 253 The caravan never showed. This... is bad.
Whelp, not sure what happened. Went another year without a caravan, so I guess I'll call this done. I'm thinking the goblins were taking out my civ. The second caravan we got listed a whole bunch of conquered sites. Checked out the list of nobles, and it was much, much shorter. That... wasn't how I pictured this ending. XD Going to try again. May not do the random industries this time, or do one random and one picked and alternate so I have some control. Definitely going to cap the population and slowly raise it, though.
