I can see caltrop density playing into the chance for damage. You're more likely to step on one of the little buggers if there's 50-100, as opposed to a handful. And knowing the Bay12 community, as soon as we find a syndrome substance that inhibits clotting we'll pour it on the entire battlefield.

Almost any biotoxin secreted by forgotten beasts is fair game really :P

Inhibit clotting? Why not just bleed faster?

I wonder if caltrops can be implemented already with some clever syndrom abuse?

You could have a [creature] secrete a substance that makes [STANCE] parts bleed. Or a smoke, but I don't think scenery can carry a syndrome that spreads.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy.

I'd imagine that in fortress mode, they would be laid out via designation (with some other designation to have dwarves pick them up again), and just go on to inhibit the movement and harm the feet of any creature that walked on the designated tiles. Simple, useful, versatile. I like it.
Indeed. Dirt roads, paved roads... Caltrop roads.
