First Mountainhome / Awesome king
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:41:06 pm »

Managed to get my first Mountainhome today, and I just wanted to share the awesome king that just arrived. I will admit that the nature of the king was not a complete surprise to me, as I consulted Legends prior to embarking and chose the parent civilization based on just that.

Not only is our king a goblin king, but a goblin vampire king. Legends seem to indicate that he was not acquired by the dwarven civilization as a prisoner from an invasion, but rather that he was born into that civilization somewhere around the beginning of recorded history. Here's his info:

Dislikes helping others, not affected by the suffering of others, but likes working outdoors! Former member of both "The Submerged Doctrine" and "The Doctrine of Submerging".

Actions speak louder than words though, and this guy is a real killer; looking at his kill list:

11,431. Over 10,000 dwarves from a single location, which is where he first assumed power, I believe.

Should be interesting. I do have a feeling strange things are bound to happen, however. His current job is listed as "Tame", and as soon as he arrived he started going around and slaughtering all the Elephants present on the map. Hopefully I can draft him when he gets settled in.

Are you kidding!? This guy looks like he could rip a bronze titan into ribbons with his bear hands!

I always seem to end up with a magnificent burial complex and nowhere near enough bodies to fill it, or far too many bodies and nowhere to put any of them.

Ahh, vampires.

Here is my Reccomendation:

Lock him in Throne room fit for Vampire king.

Leave him there.

Its not like you can order him or something. As a goblin he appears as tame, so his only action right now is to hunt.

Oh, man 0_o  Now you need to find/buy a bear, dismember it, and somehow convince yer king to carry around severed bear paws just so he can beat people to death with 'em.

Yes...it would appear that having non-dwarven members in a fort is not an entirely functional feature as of yet.

I replaced the artifact bed I had placed in the royal bedroom with an artifact chain named 'Anguish Flash' that I happened to have on hand. I then assigned the King to the chain. My senses tell me to isolate him from the rest of the fort, but I'm also thinking that the citizenry might appreciate having a royal petting zoo more.

Mighty Immortal Badass Goblin with treasures and a coven of followers King.

I'm picturing a half a siege of Goblins mounted with troll support entering this huge room, with the Goblin king lounging lazily on a throne. They all pause for a moment like, "wut." and the king stands up, and starts speaking all melodramatically:
"Hello, friends and countrymen. I see you braved the traps! Well, now is time for your reward! If you can defeat me..."
Wall slides open, hundreds of treasure chests reveal, overflowing with gold and stuff.
"...You will have riches beyond your wildest imaginings."
Goblins inch forward, weapons readied.
"But I must warn you, my friends."
The king's symbol changes to the Ñ.
"I am far more than I appear. I have lived for thousands of years, and I have tasted the flesh of thousands more. Oh, and my subjects here..."
Drawbridges lower, hundreds of crossbow dwarves are revealed...
"Are most maleficient toward you."

Toady needs to make it that in situations that same race members of enemy civilizations meet, they attempt to take each other hostage opposed to murder.

It would be nifty if you could, rarely, get different race migrations, opposed to just dwarves and the occasional differently raced King.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Well, so far the mass murdering goblin vampire King hasn't been bothering anyone, and all has been well. I've let him run around for a bit, and he doesn't seem to ever feed.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the King has just been elected as mayor. He has no entries (other than to his god) in his relationship screen, but I'm going to assume the relationship screen means little for non-dwarves.

I do find it quite interesting that non-dwarves can be elected as mayor though, seeing that, for all intents and purposes, the King seems to be treated by the game as an animal ('Tame' labor and I can assign him to a pasture) more or less.

He doesn't seem to ever issue mandates...so that's good.
