"Hiding" in containers?
« on: October 17, 2012, 01:30:52 pm »

Because why the hell not?
If the container is big enough (or you're small enough, should you, like, play as a bat or something) Urist McConnor could potentially sneak into, let's say, a crate (that others could haul once fortress mode skills are in) and we all know this would lead to a LOT of !FUN!

I realize that this is a very specfic and rough suggestion, but hey...
It's not like we're trying to divide by zero here (which we could anytime if we wanted to).

Could be neat, especially with all of the sneaking stuff.

Need to assassinate the king?

Once we get magic (and thus possibly transformation) turning oneself into a lil' vermin is very much epic.

Also, think about that - caravan comes, you buy their stuff (in barrels), you put in in the storage area, and suddenly - goblins and kobolds start POURING OUT of the barrels.
Therefore, !FUN!

Or you do the reverse, goblin merchants come, you trade them barrels. (with GCSes inside)

The Dark Fortress has crumbled.

Also, I think that there should be a change about contents of containers - that you need to look into them to "update" the contents - otherwise "Kobold Barrel" or something would really be a bad spoiler.
Also, ALL barrels would have holes in them. For gameplay purposes.

I am very much in favor of this idea, having creatures hide in containers would be a benefit.
On a side note, are living bodies considered containers?

I think this potential feature could be improved with the addition of cardboard boxes.

And guards flashing between their regular icon and a red exclamation mark?
Yea, thanks.

Well, techinically their stomachs could, but in most cases one wouldn't fit into them (see: OP), unless one of your dwarves is Urist McJonah and for some ungodly reason he gets swallowed by a giant sperm whale...)

Hiding in containers worked in "The Hobbit", they even used them as transportation.

If there was no size limit, it would be humorous to open up a box...
AND OUT POPS A BRONZE COLOSSUS!
Your fortress has crumbled to its end.
