@ST: Yes, but if this is an explosive round it's firing... Also, if a shot hits one of the coils, then it doesn't work so well anymore.

In addition, the magnets in such a weapon would much rather fling themselves apart than accelerate the bullet if they could help it, or so I'm told. A little damage and it may or may not fail catastrophically.

Eh.

Think of it like this.

Weak= Richard nearly dies. He'll be out for the next couple of rounds, and incapacitated unless magically healed.
Nothing= Richard gets his limb torn off. He screams his head off, but survives.
Resistance= Richard survives the hit, and manages to get back to cover.
Strong to= Richard takes the hit, but doesn't like it, and is still somewhat wounded.
Null= Richard survives the hit with no effects whatsoever.
Reflect= The round turns right around and hits the shooter instead.
Absorb= Richard heals from it.

I'm probably not going to use the last three.

I don't know how the rounds being explosive would help it be jammed. Also, if a metal chunk got stuck inside the barrel, I suppose it would be launched out of the barrel next time it fired. As for how the magnets don't tear the gun apart, it's the future.

They wouldn't, unless they happened to hit an obstruction and explode prematurely.

In that unlikely scenario, there would probably not be a gun left to jam.

And to be fair about the 'tearing itself to pieces', railguns have the same problem, but they're being made for the military IRL, so... It's hardly an insurmountable problem, but it is a weakness.
