Is Richard fighting like a skilled warrior now? I thought that sword was very heavy and that Richard was a common college student aside from the personas.

Cricket bat. And he isn't skilled; otherwise Maria would be fighting harder and Richard wouldn't be stumbling and getting hit so much. Also, the sword's quite big; so he could feasibly block most of her shots simply by leaving it up sideways.

And he did spend some time fighting criminals. Two years of his life at night.

How else do you think he trained his Personas up?
