"I noticed Iris was gone, so I looked for her. Found her in a cave, she was blind, and mute. Got her out, healed her blindness, but not her muteness, so I went here."

Alan reaches the entrance that he used to get inside the airship, and climbs back outside. Once there, he notices a bunch of people standing around. Including the girl from earlier. He concludes from their apparel that is definitely not the same as the airship crew's that they must be likely scavengers or something of the sorts.

Wait, did he just try to rationalise a dream element? Dammit.
