Unless they existed in other worlds too?

Yessssssssss...in the old days there used to be many of your kind, quite a few ended up in these halls, looking for information on their gifts and spirits. Of course only a few were humans, some were the younger races and a few of the elders walked among them too. All came to learn here, the place where the acloytes of Mystra came to make their home.

Not alternate worlds, just plain old other universes. Or did you think that your universe was the "true" one. The Nightgaunt laugsh Nothing that you younger races think is fact is true. Sometimes your arrogance can be astounding.

The Nightgaunt laughs again. Young one I was not born on any world. I wasn't even born in a universe. I was born in the space between universes. Where the Outer Gods dance among the stars and the weak gods of alllll Earths cower at them. I believe the term you humans have given me is Lovecraftian.
