The Nightgaunt pauses and then speaks slowly, as if trying to rember something from long ago. A long,long time ago, older than even I there lived the goddes Mystra. She was the Goddes of mgic in the world Abeir Toil and controled the Weave of Magic with an even hand. But one day the Mad God Cyric attacked Mystra and killed her, thus releasing great diaster on the world below. At that time I was part of a small order of Nightgaunts, about 1000, that had pledged ourseleves to the Goddess. When Cyric killed her we felt part of her essence go to this universe and we followed. There she split into several parts. The largest one landed here, creating a pool of pure magic under the forest. We built a great city that we could fly and walk about in and named it Van Neilis; the City of Stone Trees. We spent many peacful centuries studying magic and trying to find Mystra's other parts. Eventually the human King Thomas found our city and brokered a deal with us, we would allow him to settle humans here and we would get his protection. After much debate we agreed. Over time the King changed, he was once a kind and wise ruler but shortly before the cities fall we felt something change. He became more paranoid about invaders and attempted to learn the secret of immortality by fusing himself with machienry. The shadow of another god had fallen over him. eventually warriors dressed much like the one here attacked the city, using paths laid bare by the same god, and destroyed the humans. They left shortly after and a pack of machienry obsessed kobolds have taken over our city.That is all I know of our history. The Nightgaunt sits down now, as if exhausted with the effort of telling the histories.
