Dwarf Fortress Themed Minecraft Server
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:36:21 am »

Hi everyone. I'm the administrator of a new minecraft server dedicated to a role-play based version of Dwarf Fortress. We have been in testing for the past two weeks and are finally ready to go live. We already have a small populace of 5-10 people but are looking to invite even more players to join us!

On the server, players can take the role of any character within the three traditional main races (Dwarves, Humans and Elves) and also the monster race of Kobold. We aim to get as close to Dwarf Fortress in roleplay as we can, utilising the dwarf fortress wiki pages on races and community fluff development (such as cutebolds, delicious lava and the dwarves legendary hatred of trees...) as inspiration for each race.

We offer a fairly rules-light gameplay- other than a few things that are beyond the control of plugins, anything mechanical that a certain race can't do is handled by plugins, meaning that you don't have to worry about rules-heavy moderator influence. Just join and have fun!

The main aim of this server is to provide a setting as close to Dorf Fort as possible in a 3d RPG environment, with inter-racial antagonism as the main driver of FUN. Want to declare war on the elves and raze their precious forest, or would you rather politik your way to a peaceful solution and build mighty civilisations? The method is up to you the player and your race.

To that end, to create potential for conflict each race is designed to have something the other needs and have particular abilities the other's don't. This promotes trade and hostility between the three major racial groups as well as the pesky Kobold thieves that blight them. Competition to create a civilisation is also implemented, racial moderators watch the growth of civilisations and reward dilligent effort with various things; with a loose tier based system incorporating both construction and roleplay you can make your humble mountain home into a glorious dwarven barony, elect or unlock player's ascension to positions of power including the Hammerer, Nobility and many others.

For more information, or simply to have a look, visit the forum here: www.dfrpc.freeforums.org to read more or to sign up!

If you feel like having a look first, also feel free to join the server at: 142.4.58.214:25565

Bumps should be done after a day, or when it falls off the first page :P

As Girlinhat probably said in another server thread, splitting the already small community of Bay12 into so many minecraft servers probably won't help ...

Also, where's the server at? That's very important to me.
What's the game version?
What mods and plugins are active?

Thanks for replying!

The server is based in Los Angeles currently, as the majority of players were expected to be American. I myself am an Australian so it was a compromise to provide good connection for both myself and the expected community.

Game version is 1.3.2 so that players can take full advantage of things like journals, etc.

As far as plugins go, we make use of the following to provide general race abilities/restrictions and make the game a lot more difficult:

- AutoSneak (Primarily for bolds)
- Ailments
- Bookshelves-Advanced (For storing books realistically)
- DisguiseCraft (mostly for moderator run server events, such as a Bronze Collossus showing up.)
- HungerPlusPlus
- LocalChat
- MoArrows (to provide more realistic arrow combat and specialised arrows for each race)
- Monster Apocalpyse Ver.0.9 (For making animals hostile and creating intense encounters in the world for more difficult play)
- Otherbounds (to create a world barrier to keep server memory down, current boundary has a diameter of 5,000 blocks)
- Terrain Control (to create the world)
- Timber (I am informed however that at present it is disabled)

There are a few other plugins, but those are administrative. We make use of NoItem to restrict crafting, block breaking etc.

Hmm, interested in this. I was part of the old Dwarven Invaders before it died (long live the Epic Mechanisms! Never forget Tallowlashed and the Siege of Virgins!) and have been wanting some more mc-df-themed-rp. As to the whole splitting the bay12 minecraft community thing, I really don't think it'd be a problem. There's plenty of people who would like to have a venue to rp being a dwarf through minecraft.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to drink strawberry wine, reminisce about my term of office as mayor of Tallowlashed and unfuck my copy of minecraft so I can get dwarfing.

I know, we had a soft open a couple days ago to try and have small settlements built prior to posting on bay12 and other places. Most players went elves for some reason.

At least they're playing actual dirty tree humpers though, instead of FAAAABULOUS sparkly elves.

Another thing to note, that I didn't mention, is that when certain races reach certain hidden requirements, things like invading forces of vile darkness, bronze collossi, dragons, and other things will occur. These will be occassional pre-arranged server events with plenty of warning for the players on both the server and the forum.

Ok, so I joined, got dorfed as Onul Kaddol (heh) and am now mining for precious metals deep in the earth and generally being a useful dwarf. There's already the beginnings of an epic fort in place (magma moat, barracks and meeting hall all ready on my arrival? Wayward Device has been ecstatic recently). Looking forward to being a part of this.

Alright, I've really been enjoying this so far. Now, a quick summary of what I've been up to:

Find server, incarnate as a Dwarf called Onul Kaddol. Mine, smooth stone for a bit, hear that the barracks is complete and the is militia being formed and sign up as a marksdwarf. Go up to the archer tower to check it out, immediately spot a kobold ambushing a dwarf in front of the fort (Ironflow) and snipe him with my first shot, tearing the brain. Mine some more, return home to smelt and get killed by a beserking dwarf called Beermaster. Accidentally kill him as a ghost, reincarnate as Urist Gemtower, a new migrant and architect. Search for materiel, build giant pedestal and Dwarf Statue overlooking lands of Ironflow.

Good times.
