How to attract a former adventurer migrant...
« on: October 15, 2012, 09:58:11 pm »

So, is it just luck? I assume that it is of course, as the migrant waves are basically generated randomly, are they not? Well, except maybe the first two waves which, while random, are slightly different. But therein lies the question.

When/where should I keep an eye out for a former adventurer migrant I'm hoping to see again? I retired him at a site of the dwarven civilization of which my new fort is a part. Is it only possible in the first two waves? In the waves that come later? Both? Enlighten me, oh dwarven sages!

It is possible to come at any time.  Migrant waves now come from historical figures, where possible, until historical populations are exhausted, at which point the old way of randomly generated dorfs show up (and I'm not sure if that gets capped too if your civ is REALLY low on dorfs).

So, if your civ has a low overall population, you might see him/her soon.  If it has a high pop, you may never see the adventurer.

Ahhh, thank you for the information. We're still a young fort with plenty of room before hitting the population cap I've set. Turned it down a bit from the default 200. I'm not sure how big/average/small my overall civ's population is, at least in comparison to others. I have a legends export though, I should check that in Legends Viewer.

I will admit that I'm so eager to see him that, if I happen to catch a save just before a migrant wave, to my shame I'm not above a little save-scumming to see if I get lucky and roll up my old friend. Sigh, dwarves, they drive you to such lengths sometimes. Thanks again for the info :)

So, maybe I shouldn't have looked but I checked my civ's population in Legends Viewer. About 14,500. Which basically means I have a 1 in 14,500 chance of actually seeing my adventurer. With a migrant wave of 20ish, I get say twenty stabs at it (for that particular wave) but, still. I wonder too if the chances are lower than that even, since I seem to recall talk that the game will send migrants with jobs that it thinks you lack, and as an adventurer he was mostly a figther; maybe like, novice butcher too. He was basically a peasant, and I wonder how many the game is willing to throw in to any particular migrant wave.

Sigh. Maybe I won't see my adventurer in my fort afterall. Well, not without getting the population up then engineering the occasional disaster that wipes out a large swath of population. Curse these dwarves!

*Edit* You know, I wonder. Since when the king/queen's entourage appears, the game generally generates some legendary warrior types, if there was an existing one or two (like my adventurer) that already existed as a historical figure in the civ, would it grab him/her first, before creating? In the same manner it seems to do with normal migrants. Hmmmmm.

1. Make Demigod with high combat prowness in one weapon, high agility, the works. Put him in your planned civ - preferably the least populated one.
2. Instantly retire him.
3. Repeat 1 and 2 until the odds are with you (remember, popcap is 200). With enough murder you can probably get 1000 dwarves passing through your fort, but that's actual gameplay. Try to get it so 3 out of 200 dwarves is a demigod badass, if your patience holds. (Try it on an intercontinental flight!)
4. Enjoy your pre-equipped supersoldier migrant(s).

That's the entire premise behind the starting at the dawn of time thread :).

Are all historical figures available to be migrants?
What are the odds that a given migrant is a non-historical figure?

Those are good questions. My guess is that yes, if they're a historical figure, they can be migrants under certain conditions. That is, they must be dwarven, they probably can't be a king or queen, they can't be a werebeast I would think (when a dwarf becomes a werebeast, are they kicked from a civ? Not sure how that would work), and...well, I can't think of other conditions off of the top of my head. I'm sure there's some other obvious ones, but that's all I have at the moment, haha.
