[Story] Semorner Necatition Ushesh - Prison
« on: October 14, 2012, 05:18:54 am »

Before I say anything, Im not a screenshot edity person. I just post the bloody things.

First, this is a Story. Not a Succession Game.
And this is in Masterwork Dwarf Fortress.

Welcome one and all, to Semorner Necatition Ushesh- The Fortress where people suffer, die, burn, and Armok knows what else in between.
Also known as Unitedlake The Chain-Hall Of Imprisonment.
This is a Temperate Savannah, in the World known as Paperequal!

I speak often of My love of torment fuelled Prisons in Dwarf Fortress, so I figure, build one! And make a Story out of it.
What could POSSIBLY go wrong!
So, theres some goals and rules.

Rules are:
I wont be cheating.
I wont be turtling up too much.
I wont be going to hell.
Goals are:
1;
Build a functioning Prison, with the following:
Cell Blocks
Torture Chambers
Execution Chambers
Guard Barracks
Non-Prison Personell Township In A Different Area To The Prison
A Way To Put Any Dwarf I Choose Into The Prison
2;
Build a functioning Township, with the following:
Self Sustained Food And Water Supply
Multi-Level Apartment Style Housing (Underground)
Surface Level Indoor Trading Outpost
Wall Surrounding Entire Fortress, With Only One Way In Or Out (Save for flying), And Lever Controls On The Inside Of The Management Structure
3;
Build a Management Structure, with the following:
Housing and Offices and a Dining Hall for Nobles
4;
A unique role for EVERY CHARACTER, so that They have Identity

Everything else, Ill figure out as I go along.
There will be mostly Screenshot and Journal based updates. Occassionally I plan to record videos instead, depending on whats being recorded.
This will be told from the perspective of an Overseer named Tarek, not directly present in the game, running the Prison.
He keeps a Journal, and sketches the notable events and progress of the day into it. If Im not lazy, Ill even make it look convincing :)
I may also have to 'enhance' certain occurances, like a tunnel being dug, to make the otherwise unremarkable stuff interesting.

The other Characters Ill figure out as I go along, and I am more than happy to add a bit of community interaction.
If someone would fancy a Character named after Them, Im certainly glad to do so.
Personalities of Your choosing can be applied as well, though theres no guarantee that that character will ever be more than a casual worker.

Without further mucking around with Rules and Goals and all that junk, lets roll.
Our Group is called Akamaban, The Fortunate Construct.

Oh, one last thing.
I dont plan on being nice to anything that isnt a Dwarf.

---

Current Dwarves:
Ablel Reksasaned
Banik Ngalakasmel
Besmar Lurudar
Borik Kutamustuth
Dumed Kabthikut
Lish Tholtigetol
Zamnuth Idostath

Note to self: Imprison Besmar as soon as possible for being a self entitled sniveling whiner.

Chapter 1:

Entry 1;

We have arrived, after many days travel. And its about damn time. We are running low on food. Or at least, food that isnt destined for the farms.
We stood along a sheer cliff face, overlooking a river, down below. Apparently, This is to be the site of Semorner. Remarkable!
I can see where the Lords were coming from, but This shall not be some easy labor.
Bridges, between the two cliffsides down below, connecting the districts and sections.
Blocks of small 2x2 rooms, organised in a perfect grid.
A storage facility...

But if all goes according to the Design Briefing, This will be a wonderous construct.
And I am greatly honored to be the one assigned to lead the project, through better or worse.
We shall get to work at once.
But the cliffside also looks a tad dangerous. We ought be cautious, and safe. Because that fall would not be enough to kill.
And there are worse fates than death.
I wonder if We could institute a system wherein We could dump captives down the cliff...

Entry 2;

The Terrain offers some natural defenses. This place will not be hard to fortify, when the time comes.
I believe We shall have windows, overlooking the cliff. This should make for a visually pleasing sight for the work force.

The first central stairway has been designated, as well as the trees to be cut down for material.
The first port of call will be the Storage Facility, followed by the Work Force District and the Farming District.
We also need to get the Water Supply up and running, but that will happen one way or another.
This may take some time, but such things are imperative if a Prison facility is to survive.

We have also bridged over a river, leading to a waterfall.
Some of Us also seem to have run into some cobwebs between some trees. Disgusting, that silken crap. But likely left by some long dead Titan.

Entry 3;

Stupid. Its stupid. Our Storage area is being improved upon, slightly, due to an unforseen hinderance involving a stupid lake, in an inconvenient location.
It should be fine.

Weve picked up some Obsidian, someplace. This will be excellent for the Workshops. Work is coming along nicely, albeit limited by the scope of Our workforce.
Designations have been made, and work is underway!

The Perimeter Walls will be next. Im contemplating whether to build the interior wall out of wood, or stone. Same for the exterior.
If the interior is stone, itll be harder for Captives to escape, and easier for future Captives to get captured.
But a strong exterior will mean that if We are overwhelmed, We can barricade Ourselves in pretty righteously.
Decisions decisions. Probably followed by more damn decisions. I need to get back to work.

Entry 4;

The Winter is ending, and the snow is clearing up nicely. Hopefully it rains in these parts.
The workshops are nearly done, and already we are producing the means to expand into a residential area.

The apartments have been designated, and beds are being fashioned. The water supply is also coming along.
A publican has also, by popular demand, been instigated. Im unsure of how much use I shall allow of it however.

That reminds Me of this fucking stupid dwarf, who wouldnt get out of the reservoir when I wanted to flood it. "Dumed Kabthikut".
He shall be the second to be imprisoned. That is, if I dont kill the snivelling idiot first.
Its a shame Hed rot the reservoir.

Entry 5;

Reservoir flooded. Idiot flushed out. Alls good.
The water supply is incidentally complete. We will soon require a Hospital.

Also, Borik the Expedition Leader punched a Playpus.
The Wall is underway, and will soon be finished. Residential is next.

Entry 6;

Its been a long day. I should be writing a more thorough account, but My work keeps Me busy.

The Walls are complete! At long last. The interior walls, anyway. There is still alot of work and construction to be done, but it is a start.

The first residences are also complete, as I shall depict here:

We shall smoothe the current walls before We proceed. It has been strenuous, but the Township is well on its way to completion.
Just look at the Workshops!

Soon, the second perimeter and the Prison itself shall get underway. How exciting!
Also, Ablel is sleeping in a barrel. Oh, and the barrel is on the floor in a hallway. He was carrying it, when He decided to have a nap on top of it, the bum.

Feedback is appreciated.
I also had to trim out some stuff, because I want the Journal to, right now, sound rushed, to reflect the fact that building the town should be a higher priority than logging ones thoughts.

This will become a whole lot better when it starts being less about building the Fort, and more about what goes on within it. Believe Me.

Chapter 2

Entry 1;
We are running low on stone. We are being forced to expand the Residences, in order to get more.
Soon, We will begin constructing the Prison, if not just for the resources.
There was also a bridge building accident earlier. Noone was hurt, but it was a close one.

We have a surprisingly large amount of gems and ores. Soon, We may have to start minting the metal into coins, and cutting the gems.
It will likely be Our source of wealth, before the Prison Mines are built.

A temporary subterrane Trade Depot should keep us going until Our infrastructure is more secure.
It also seems the Publican has been placed on hold, due to more important projects.

The agenda is hereby to bridge the gap...

Entry 2;
We are smelting some of the gold, to make Chains. We are also mass producing Mechanisms.
We are building Cages, and carving out the Prison. Next will be the Prisoner Intake.
Were going to need more wood.

There are also now Rock Spikes underway, for the first primitive torture chambers. Because Prisons need those.

But this lack of resources is getting on My nerves. So Im building a Mine.
That is all.

Entry 3;
Ok, ok. That was REALLY stupid. Weve had a collapse already. We are trying to dig through the rubble to find any injured now, but I should have know.
Fuck.

Entry 4;
Son of a bitch. Banik Ngalakasmel was badly hurt.

Thatll teach Me.
Naturally, Hes gone and laid down in the Alchohol Storage Room.
We really need a Hospital.

In other news, the Prison is making progress.

And an overview of the Main Structure:

And We have received word of another collapse even now. I shall have to stop writing and go check.

Entry 5;
That was a big one. Borik fell down a long way.
He is surprisingly resilient.

The Prisoner Intake Hall is underway. Now We just need a lot more wood.
I have work to do.

Entry 6;
We have begun smelting Native Gold to make Chains.
The Prison will soon be operational.

Oh, and there was another collapse a bit later on.
This has to stop happening. Borik is STILL trapped down there.
Im building a Hospital.

Entry 7;
MIGRANTS!

I couldnt be bothered listing Their names, but there are 4 of Them.

Some tantruming shit earlier tore down the kennels. Stupid fool.

Anyhow. Here is the Prisoner Intake:

Here is the Prison.

Progress is being made.
And for those curious, the Mine:

In other news, the Migrants brought with Them a Copper Swordgolem.
It shall be Our appointed Torturer.
What can possibly go wrong. It can double as an Executioner!

We have 55 Gold Bars. We are pretty well set to sustain Ourselves.

All We truly need, is a lot more wood...

I'd like to be dorfed as Bobnova, any occupation. Ideally not currently injured.

Why on earth wouldnt You want to be one of the maimed cripples stuck 40 z-levels underground?!

Oh, ok. Fine. Ill make You the... Ah... Bobnova sounds like a Manager. Just think!
Dwarf 1: "Bobnova told us to make 20 cages."
Dwarf 2: "That Bobnova, always giving us a hard time. Agh!"
Dwarf 1: "Bobnova can be like that. Lets get to work!"

Sounds convincing to Me :)

Son of a bitch, I meant to enable Ferric Elves. In fact, I thought They WERE enabled, but apparently not.
We are surrounded by a ton of civs. I confess though that many of the captives will be traders.

And sure, You can be the Captain of the Guard. And Im sure Youll get a stone hammer with "Made of Silver Meteor Rock" written on it in crayon  8)

Chapter 3

Entry 1;
We need wood. Badly.
I dont want to dig down to the caverns, but I have lesser and lesser choice. We NEED wood.
We COULD grow the stuff, but growing wood is for Elves.

We have constructed the Trade Depot up on the surface, as well as a Hospital. The Prison is presently being enhanced also.

Ill show off the Trade Depot later.

As We have recently appointed a layman known as "Shingy" to the position of Captain Of The Guard, We will need a Barracks in the Prison Area to house the guard force.
Also, I think I know where the Noble District is going to go...

Entry 2;
More Migrants have arrived.

The Trade Depot and the Noble District to be!

This will be marvelous upon completion.

We are also producing Knuckle Dusters and a Hammer which is totally made out of Silver Meteorite. Also, a guy named Bobnova is now the Manager.
Three cheers for Bobnova.

Borik is still in bed, recovering from His wounds.

Entry 3;

Now, an update on the Noble District, an Overview, and the Storage Halls.

Progress is smoothe and progressive.

Many days of XCOM later, lets roll!

Chapter 4:

Entry 1;
Hm. Something called a 'Grave Cat' turned up today.
I hear They are only supposed to reside in the evil grasslands far away, but apparently this one just fell off My waterfall.
No, seriously.

In fact, its the second Grave Cat to do it, and apparently a Rhesus Macque did it some time in the past.

Incidentally, there are also underwater Rhesus Macque just hanging around.
No pun intended.

...Enough about that.

Entry 2;
The Outpost Liason came! And with Him, the Trade Caravan. I should probably assign a Broker.
Please welcome Tarcek, the Broker!

River Spirits, Prickle Berry, Swamp Whiskey, Minced Kidneys, Boozebelly Cheese, Blood...
Excellent trading! The rest can be the Traders profit!

Entry 3;
The Solitary Pits have nearly been completed in the Prison. Now to make Them a thing of horror...

Somehow, We also have an Iridium Wafer.
The Militia has been equipped with Rusty Iron Spears and Flails We somehow have.
Im busy.

Entry 4;
What was I doing again?
Eh, Im sure Ill work it out. Itll come to Me, cant be too important.
Incicentally, some Dwarf named Brewster showed up. Hes the Chief Medical Dwarf. Presumably He brews 'cures' for 'ailments'. Right, ok.

Entry 5;
OH, right. Im building a Prison! And stuff.

Entry 6;
A Drow Caravan has arrived. Well, This will be interesting.
Now would be a good time to mention, I hate the Drow fiercely.

DEATH TO THE DROW!
This aint gonna be pretty.

Death squad rally!

Fuck. The Drow can fight back. I forgot.
Theres blood everywere now.

This is either going really well, or incredibly poorly. I really cant tell.

BREWSTER!

SHINGY!

ILL FUCKING KILL YOU ALL!
Or torture those of You Ive imprisoned. Not sure which will come first.

Shit, I think Were loosing. PLAN B! Seal the Depot.

Of course there are fucking tantrums. Im having a fucking tantrum. This is not good.
Im beginning to realise that this fucking steel clad horse is whats killing Us. Not the Drow.
Im having Them all slaughtered.

AGH. Fuck, thats right. We have golems!

Ok. Ok. Ok ok ok. Maybe, if I just... Lock Myself in this room, for a bit. Eeeeverything will be ok!

Theyre trying to embark on Their journey. I THINK NOT. Weve started this. Ill kill every fucking Drow even if it kills US!
Its ok. We can survive This. Its fine. Its aaaall fine. And the Drow will eventually starve to death.

Entry 7;
19 convenient Migrants. Heh. The brilliance. THE FORT WILL SURVIVE!
Lets just put Entry 6 behind Us.

Oh, and Leprechauns stole a bunch of stuff. Bastards.

Time to do a dry run of the Torture Chambers, using Gray Langurs.

See how everything just... works out?
Incidentally, an update on the noble area.

Id call this a glowing success.
