Advantage to the attacker doesn't begin to describe it.  Kish was not lightly defended and Il Palazzo had like 6 units to attack with.  What the bloody hell.

It is our regent that now sits without claim to his home world, Kish still sings the Li Halan anthem.

Yeah, that took me a good 45 minutes to replay. And I actually faired worse in one of my battles to take a wetware plant. As in, I failed to take it. Clearly if Palazzo is crowned emperor, it is because I was unable to take that wetware plant this turn.

Turn sent.

{From the speech of the noble representative from the planet of Nowhere, Earl Unbent FitzCrookless}

Senators,

As I cast my eyes upon this congregation, it pains me to see what terrible toll has war taken on its members. We haven't seen a Decados among us for decades, no longer does the Li Halan banner fly over the compounds. And by the look of it, this year was the last one when the Hawkwood coat of arms could still be seen adorning bold men in the streets of Byzantium.

We could easily try to blame one party or another for this sad state of affairs, be it Lord Mainiac's use of assassins to first draw blood of a noble born, Lord Aqizzar's lust for power leading to the lifting of age-old laws prohibiting warmaking in our Capital, or Lord Lazarus' fullscale military campaign on the very footsteps of the Emperor's palace grounds.

Yet, it would serve no purpose except to extend the misery of many, to increase the death toll even further.

Do we need see any more of such spectacles as we've witnessed this year? - Transport ships on fire in orbit over Byzantium. Fusion beams glittering in the dark by the Vril-Ya gate. Do we need to hear of the Fleet murdering our noble brethren in the dark of space where no one can hear them scream, as it befell Lady Lucinda Hazat? Or of the imperial troops raiding the Hawkwood palace under the cover of darkness, killing low and highborn alike?

This planet is our home, our treasure, the Jewel of the Empire. Does it not draw our tears to see high Lords bombing from orbit their foes, together with blameless civilians, because that's "the only way to be sure"?
Does not a cry for vengeance escape from behind our clenched teeth when a highborn deems it acceptable to employ hashishim carrying stoneburners, to remove their political opposition together with a whole quarter of a city as collateral damage?
Do we not cower in fear at the sight of symbiot airborne bugs decapitating seemingly random people, with only a dubious value of a noble's word to ensure us that they were spies?

Alas, we musn't act on those feelings, no matter how just, how well-founded they are. We musn't add oil to the flames, we musn't descend even further into this madness.

What we ought to think of, is how to end this predicament, this civil war the Empire has found itself embroiled in. We owe our duty to the people, and we cannot allow them to suffer for our pride, for our vanity, and for our ambitions, any longer.

Regardless of one's political leanings, any sane person can see that the only force of those remaining on Byzantium who can hope to maintain peace and order, to stop in its tracks any attempt at again fanning the flames of conflict and fratricide, are the hosts of the Hazat. Their presence in our Capital cannot be rivaled by any other, and so it is they that are best suited to holding the regency and safeguarding the lives of law-abiding citizens of the Empire.

Yes, they might not be the best choice we could dream of, yes they have done questionable deeds in the past. Still, we ought to bury our misgivings and think pragmatically.

Thus, I implore you all to cast your votes for Lord Lazarus, to impart him with the powers to restore peace, to calm the unruly with iron fists if needed be.
After all, we are all but the servants of the Empire, and it is the well being of our common fatherland that we should hold paramount.

You meant Absolution.
But yeah, this year I read battle reports and witnessed Aqizzar decimating my defenses on Vril-Ya, then it's my turn and I'm the god of war. This game simply rewards treacherous attacks and keeping the initiative. It's not as much about slugging it out with each other, as about making sure that by the time your turn ends, the other player is left without any means to react.

I'd play the absolute hell out of a modded EoFS of the Dune universe with symbiots replaced by xenomorphs and you would get to fight each other over Arrakis. Scepters replaced by spice blows and random worm attacks.

Xenomorphs? There were no Xenomorphs in the Dune universe?

No, of course not. Margrave was spotting the reference.

You meant Absolution.

No, I meant Kish.  I just knew scepters had been taken, I didn't know where.

Absolution went about the way I expected it to on the ground.

He could always just attack them, though I'm not sure that would be the most pertinent move with the evildoer Lazarus at large.
