Are the Li Halan suggesting ship to ship combat be banned but ground combat is not? We wonder about their motives with this suggestion.

I would like to point out that Keboo has already moved the relic he stole from me off world.  I am still willing to accept a status quo peace but that scepter must be returned.  This is theft, plain and simple.

Given that Keboo has already violated her own rules of engagement by making this about more then Cadavus, the fleet should initiate an immediate blockade of Decados forces until the relic is returned.

What do the Li Halan not understand about a declaration of war? The relic was captured in war, and we have not sued for peace. We are sorry you do not like that we had the first strike. In truth the relic means very little to us, but if it is something you covet, we are happy to keep it from an enemy. Your house threatened ours with annihilation of our ships and blockaded us from the throne world. This was a declaration of hostilities. We raised it to war when you decided to unilaterally colonize Cadavus without any word or negotiation. You would not leave, so we declared war. After that there is no resolution. This says nothing of your decision to hide behind the guise of a "crusade" to grab the symbiot worlds, or your delving into forbidden technology.

If the fleet is to blockade my house, then it will have to destroy my fleet. And if that is the case, perhaps it should hand Lord Maniac the throne too. Because I will not return the relic to an untrustworthy house, not until the gates of Severus are pounded down to rubble or the Li Halan show contrition and that they are a house worthy of friendly relations. But we cannot imagine this last scenario ever being sincere.

I never gave any word that you could have peace on Cadavus, or that I would exist there peacefully with you. I never imagined you would be there at all until you just recently showed up with your band of marauders. I have not gone back on my word even once. A hostile enemy house has no place on worlds I occupy. That is the end of the matter, we do not negotiate with enemy intruders.

If the regent sees it fit to install you as de facto emperor, then he may come shoot down my entire fleet as pleases him. We just hope he realizes the ramifications of such a rash and unjust decision.

OOC: By the way, mainiac, is what the nova webpage says true that the church attacks space ships of whomever its at war with? If so, do they do this indiscriminately, or onlt if they are sure to win?

Do you mean that e.g. they never attacked your undefended freighters, or that you've never had an undefended freighter(or any other kind of ships) finish the turn in orbit of a planet with Church's ships present?

The latter.  I've never shared an orbit with them.

I feel like I've always had a fear of war with the church solely because they will attack you in orbit if you have a weak stack. But now that I think of it, I'm not positive that's a fact. I know the church AI behaves differently than house AIs, but to what extent I've long forgotten. If their ships aren't heading somewhere, or have already reached their destination, I think they will attack any stack they're at war with so long as the AI sees a high chance of winning it. I'm going to have to go test this out in a single player game at some point.

That sure is a lot of fertility.  By the way, how do you take these screenshots?  Everything I try just makes a solid black image, and the PCX screenshot function doesn't seem to work.

I use irfanview. It skewes the colours, though.
