House Hazat possess a might fleet above Byzantium equiped with the hand of st. ignatius and the eye of the prophet.  They say that they are planning an invasion of Li Halan space but instead maintain their vigil above the orbit of Byzantium.  Lady Octavia now lies dead to their unprovoked aggression and they have troops  Is anyone actually foolish enough to believe that Hazat is not planning on slaughtering the remnents of the senate and seizing the throne?

(from an Aragonian children's book)

Li Halan Li Halan cries treason!
"There's Hazat ships over Byzantium
They be there for a reason!"

Li Halan Li Halan look again!
Their fleet is over Absolution
And yours ain't!

Aqizzar, it's not that I'm planning to attack you or anything, but you do keep leaving your landed ships loaded at the end of your turn. One day it's going to cause problems.

Sorry again guys.  I want to see this game going just as much as you guys, but some personal stuff came up and playing my turn the last couple days was just not possible.  I promise I'll get a turn out today, and the weekend will be much more reasonable.

By the way Palazzo, I'm pretty sure the only transport I have landed with anything in it is a Carrier, and I don't think that stuff can be bombarded anyway.  If you'd prefer it sitting in orbit poised to act, then I can probably swing that.

@Aqizzar, yeah, it's the carrier. I don't care if it's landed or in orbit(or do I?), but I'd rather have you unload it if it's to stay grounded, as the house rules say. Is there really any reason why you can't just do it? It's but a couple of clicks' job.

Anyway, while we're waiting for our turns, here's the slightly belated news of this turn's Battle of Absolution:

The scouting frigate sent back the report:
"Li Halan forces spotted. Two transports and a weak squadron of heavy escorts."

On board her flagship dreadnought 'Inigo Montoya', Lady Lucinda pondered the significance of this information. Her heavy ships wouldn't be able to catch up with the target, the logistics of re-forming the battle line after the jump an insumountable obstacle when speed was paramount.
She had lost a whole wing of fighters in the Battle over Byzantium, the remaining squadrons, while by no means an insignificant force, were not numerous enough to ensure a clear victory. The more so as the attack craft could not count on the protection of their mother ships.

Yet, the opportunity to hamper Lord Mainiac's ability to regain initiative by removing this kernel of a new fleet, together with whatever cargo the transports might be carrying, was too tempting to pass over.

She called in the Marauders.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

No sooner had the hulking carriers emerged from the jumpgate, when swarms of small craft detached and sped towards the unsuspecting foes.
Seraphim and Archangels jumped upon the heavy ships like a pack of wolves, while assault shuttles expunged their ceramsteel-clad cargo. A squadron of Prophet bombers stalked behind them, empowered greatly by the Prophet's Eye ensconced within the bowels of the carriers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yet the Li Halan rallied quickly. Soon it became obvious that the transport carried something much more valuable - and dangerous, than mere DNA legions. The enemy battlemaster was present, commanding the arcane powers of the Rod of Holy Smiting.

The opening volleys from the defending cruisers decimated the marauders, the remaining few descended upon the transports, with grim determination sacrificing themselves to plant explosives on the lander hosting the relic and the commander. Thus the gears of war consumed one more of noble blood.

The fighting was fierce and bloody. Two fighter squadrons perished in the concentrated point-defence fire of the Li Halan destroyer, and of the Marauders none returned to share in the glory of the victorious battle.

Still, the gamble was worth the return. Devoid of the famed theurgical powers of the holy relic, the Li Halan posed much lesser a threat now than mere year ago. The skies over Absolution, now empty of enemy presence, became an open gateway for the invasion forces emerging from the jumpgate as if drawn by the news of victory and thirsty for their own share.

In the meantime, Hawkwood ships begun appearing over the Capital...

Given that Hawkwood is still allowing for Hazzat troops to pass through their territory as Hazzat is making a bid for the throne, Li Halan has little interest in continuing this struggle.  If you want to see a Hazzat emperor so badly then I have no interest in dying to protect you from your mistake.

And here I always thought Marauders were a bad choice for space combat besides soaking up shots. Then again those two relics boost them very well.

I am now imagining a marauder ripping into a cruiser with his bare hands and starting a fist fight inside.

Okay, finally got the turn out.  I completely ignored a planet for a few turns there, I've never seen four digits of Metal before.

By the way Palazzo, that fleet of yours is looking pretty shot up.  I hope your alien allies didn't leave too much of a mess.

Armies on Byzantium.  And to think, if I had just been elected Emperor, the Imperial Guard could be putting a stop to all this as we speak.  (That is what happens right, you win the first Emperor election and you get command of the Guard?)

No, no one ever gains control of the Imperial Guard and they never move. The most that can happen is if you attack them, their PTS missiles will fire back at your land ships if combat is allowed.

(Turn sent.)

In the Royal Palace on Istakhr, the Caliph walks and chats amiably with the House Master at Arms, Azzan Three Toe.

"His progress is astounding sire, ever since the monks of Icon shared with us the secrets of the ancient techniques he has been training day and night to hone his skills. I daresay he is an even greater warrior than I."

Saladin smiled and responded in a playful tone, "Qasim has always been more interested in scholarly lore than more manly pursuits Azzan. When I bought him a Serpent Falcon for his 16th birthday, instead of hunting in the Gaming Preserves, he actually taught it to recite poetry! POETRY! As if it were a common parrot."

"Ah but my lord you must see him in action, he has bested any opponent sent against him, including the training droids imported from Leagueheim."

"At no small expense..." muttered Saladin.

The two turned a corner and arrived in front of the Sparring Room doors. Azzan hesitated on the door handle and spoke, "Sire, I wish to warn you now, during his training he has adopted a very, well, eccentric personality to better suit himself in the mindset of the old Urth masters."

Saladin frowned and as the door was cast open he saw his nephew Qasim al-Malik savagely finish smashing a copper plated combat droid onto the training floor. With a flourish the young nobleman slashed his claymore into the air and shouted a victory cry to the applause of several Knights of the Ceramite. Qasim grinned and turned to the new arrivals and with a guttural laugh shouted,

"Ah Uncle! Master! I dinnae know ye two were coming 'ere to watch meh, otherwise I would hae fought yon beastie one handed."

Saladin sputtered and gaped at the transformation the long training had done to his scrawny bespectacled nephew.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He could only reply, "Qasim! Where did you get all that red hair?!"

It seems our would be emperor has added starving civilians and trying to spread plagues to his repetoire of murder and treason.  What a lovely individual.

Turn is going to be a while.  Organizing a proper ground defense on three worlds is a rather time intensive process and I don't particularly feel like doing it right now.

But surely you agree! The end of a something approaches.
What exactly might that be - the end of grand ambitions, the end of illusions of grandeur, the end of the 49th millenia of continuous running of "The Bold and the Beautiful"? Who knows!
