The infinite backpack thing is a bit of a bug. Containers do have defined volumes, such that an empty backpack will only hold 40 units of water and putting objects into the backpack before filling it will reduce that amount. Problem is, if your adventurer's hands are both occupied, then anything picked up will be automagically placed in your backpack whether or not it's already full. That's also why trying to put yer weapon away will give you a 'no suitable container' notice, but dropping it and picking it back up with full hands will put it right in the backpack. Not sure if it's a bug or a Toady placeholder, but it'll get fixed one of these days. Sometime in the next decade at least =P

fake edit: Also, I think some containers take up less volume than they can hold, leading to infinite backpack regressions. Not sure on that one though.

Not all containers are useless.

Afterall, if we didn't have barrels, you couldn't make Donkey Kong themed adventures!

carrying barrels and throwing them to enemies... are barrels light enough to carry some and not get encumbered during battles? are they any good as thrown weapons?

I carry with me 9 bolts/arrows in my quiver, when engaging in battle I throw my backpack to my enemies, and I'm left with my armour and quiver, the bolts I throw them to disable the enemies and approach them in melee for the coup de grace.

I pick my used bolts back into my quiver (since I throw them they don't break).
