"Is the sky Blue?" sounds like a yes or no question right?

There is still an undefined.
No there's not, because Norman can still answer with yes or no.

Undefined answer for the Random god is okay. Pnx said he randomly answers Yes or No, not True or False. He doesn't have to interpret the questions.
To clarify, the random one does just choose randomly between yes and no. I thought I was clear about that, but I guess I should have made sure I had the right wording.
Why did you say one thing and then posted a quote which is a direct contradiction to your statement?

Well then I answered it correctly, just that the question was altered against me :P

I hate when that happens :P

What if Norman doesn't exist with color? then it is undefined :D

I think getting the random guy out of the equation in the first question is essential because any question asked to just him will be worthless.

And, uh, the thing quoted backs him up.  Pnx did say he randomly chooses between yes or no, so even if the question has no valid answer for the random guy he won't give a fuck.

Oh, I thought he meant that Norman would just remain silent in that case.

Well since questions are answered with yes and no... just make the question yes and no indirrectly.

Like "If you tell the truth the answer is yes, if you lie the answer is yes, if you are random the answer is no. Who are you?"

Like that for example. Mind you that isn't a solution (at least I don't think so) but still.

That would definately work on a 1 v 1 case though.

Heck compound it

"If you tell the truth the answer is no, if you lie the answer is yes, of you are random and are telling the truth the answer is yes, if you are random and are telling the truth the answer is no. Who are you?"

:D ohh the sillyness :D

That will get the random AND is a yes and no question.

The liar would promptly say no and Norman would say whatever in that case.

In my second compound... truth and lies will say No... Random will say yes.

Except... I forgot the question was altered on me...

Question 1: "What would someone with the opposite truth/lies configuration to you say that the random god's response will be this time?"
Odd guy out is the random god, set him to one side.

Question 2 (directed at either non-random god): "What was your response to the previous question?"

This identifies all three, but it's occurred to me that these aren't exactly yes/no questions, even if in both cases their answers are obviously going to be yes/no.  I'll try and rework them to be true yes/no affairs.

"If you tell the truth the answer is no, if you lie the answer is yes, of you are random and are telling the truth the answer is yes, if you are random and are telling the truth the answer is no. Who are you?"
That's not a question, it's a set of instructions.

Eh it's shortly before midnight and I didn't parse that part correctly.

Either way if Norman's answer is independent from the question then there's still the issue of him saying whatever.

I think the original version I heard involved two doors (one which would kill you, one which lead to treasure) that you had to figure out which one was the treasure door, and that you could only ask questions about the gods or the doors. Which is slightly more restrictive and more difficult, but honestly not much if you can solve the one I posted.

I'm really not sure why you guys are trying so hard to solve the puzzle with crazy out of the box thinking though, it's really not that hard to solve it using just logic, which is the reason why it's one of my favourite logic puzzles (it's pretty simple, the rules are generally pretty clear, and is pretty fun to work out).

Actually that one's easy. "What would the other guy say where the treasure would be?" and you go through whichever door isn't given.

No, it is a question with instructions on how to answer it.

It is totally legit.

Well no... you didn't find who tells the truth and who lies... because your first question relies on knowing which answer is yes and which is no without establishing a way to ensure you know which is and which is not.

Reelya, I'm not entirely sure you did.

Can you walk me through it again? I sort of lost you on the last bit.
