I would suggest making your blind dorfs menial workers like gatherers and cutters from outside and retrain some not blind dorfs. Once you get NOT blind dorfs confine them forever where it's safe.

Blind dwarves are good to have in some jobs but terrible in others. Blind the military, woodcutters, fishers, and dwarves you want to build stuff; sight's good for the rest.

I once read a story about a blind Marksdwarf named "Lightning".  Very appropriately named.

Imagine a legendary+ firing indiscriminately in a circle like an out of control machine gun. It'd be like christmas! And presents were crossbow bolts. In the skull.

Crossbows can't normally cause friendly fire, correct?  I wonder if that changes with a blind dwarf?

I'm pretty sure a bolt CAN friendly fire. I've had loyalty cascades because of shitty shooters.

I knew that Dizzyness removed the influence of skill but I had no idea blindness did.

Bolts absolutely cannot friendly fire.

When fired against friendly Dwarves. It's still open to speculation with liaisions and merchants.

With all the clusterfucks I've had my marksdwarves fired into I'm sure a liason, trader, or caravan guard must have been hit but someone should do definitive testing.

Well, you can target caravans and liaisons for attack...

Unless I'm mistaken the question was about whether or not a stray bolt would hit a friendly. You can target them for attack but unless you do I don't think the bolts will hit them.
