Bad day today. When you're already mildly depressed, stupid things have a severely amplified effect.

If I like something and someone else thinks it sucks, I'm obviously a lesser person for even caring about something so stupid and dumb and I'm worthless and the world would be better off without me... basically, that's the train of thought. So, yeah, I'm totally at the point where it can be a pretty big issue. Which is why I'm just staying away.

If you're at the point where you're not only unable to deal with criticism of yourself but also unable to deal with criticism of a show you like then that's a pretty big issue.

In my experience most criticism of "the show" tends to be barely veiled misogyny/homophobia and irrational attacks on the people who watch MLP (aided by many association fallacies), not the show itself.

I avoid IRCs because people tend to find a way to get dramatic over nothing.

Very wise.  My opinion on the show is that who the hell cares.  My opinion on the fans is that no other fandom has had discussions banned from the forum for consistently going places they shouldn't.

You seriously got that into this. I am utterly speechless. All that needs to happen now is for Pathos to show up and start with the creepy nihilist trolling and we will have managed to cover the entire forum controversy history.

I'm sorry. It's my fault for bringing it up in the first place.

Forgot captain mayday.

Don't worry though. I gotcha.

Edit: Actually if I recall correctly, IRC was heavily involved in that as well. Spooky.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

DRAMA!

Though more seriously, it depends on the channel. And the participants.

Truth. The best thing about irc is that when a mod gets too much of god complex or the community turns to crap, you can just make another channel.

I think the best thing about IRC is that it's still the most efficient method of real-time online communication between more than a handful of people yet designed.

Yeah, I like the facts that it is light (memory and internet), it's a protocol, so it has many clients, and that it's pretty easy to use.

so it has many clients

Speaking of which, I wonder if there are any better than mIRC.  I've never bothered to look into it.

Edit:  Quoted the wrong part of the previous post.  Derp.

I like Xchat 2 (also known as Ychat) which is free and has pretty good features.
It's somehow related to Xchat, but how, I don't know.
