Muttering Yet Not Acting
« on: October 12, 2012, 04:50:20 pm »

Hello DF Community I come to seek advice. A child has recently claimed a workshop so that he could create an artifact, however after he grabbed 14 skulls, 3 stones and a piece of leather he has done nothing but sit in the workshop and mutter. He is only requesting stone, bones and leather. All three things are readily available to him. How do I fix this?

Do skulls count as bones? Also, it's possible he needs multiple units of each.

He has several of each thing available. He grabbed only skulls but they are listed as bones in the workshop, so yes they do apparently.

There's a bug related to this. Are the materials outside of his current burrow, or have you otherwise messed with burrow restrictions?

I only ever used 1 burrow and that was to see if a dwarf was a vampire.

The free pieces of leather I have are located in the tanners workshop and they have the 'TSK' next to them. No other dwarf but the possessed one requires leather for anything. Could he be stuck in the workshop?

e: The tsk was because they were being put in a stockpile. He is still stuck in the workshop.

If you have dfhack use showmood.

Everything that can be slaughtered is being slaughtered for food and leather so he has plenty of everything.

I don't use dfhack or anything like that.

14 skulls? That's not normal. I don't think I've ever seen a moody dwarf use a skull either. Tell us what DFHack says about the mood, and what -- tasked or not -- is currently in the claimed workshop.

The list of what's in the workshop:
1 rocksalt used for the construction.
1 rocksalt used for the artifact.
2 microcline used for the project.
1 reindeer leather used for project.
14 stray donkey bones used for the project.

I can't tell if it's all skulls but I saw him hauling quite a few skulls.

Is it one stack of donkey bones? That counts as one bone.

Skulls are listed as "X skull," letting you tell what they are instantly.

It's one stack, but I have plenty of kitten bones so he isn't waiting for bones to be made available.

Have you butchered anything since the start of the mood? There was a topic recently in which the OP claimed there were plenty of bones available, but ultimately the problem was solved by butchering something else.

All kittens were being slaughtered.

The child is now melancholy so it doesn't really matter, but it'd be rather cool to find out what happened so that I can try to avoid it in the future.

kittens don't provide bones when butchered, only skulls.
