I tend to favor swords or spears and when desperate, thrown rocks or other items.

Axe. I pretty much always play a dwarf, so steel axes happen frequently enough, but not too much so that they are a still a pleasant surprise.

As with most games it depends on my choice of Roled played character.
In DF adventure, however, its usually spear/halbred/mace.  Forget warhammers/mauls.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I normall go with swords but axes are a favorite when I play a dwarf, though I also use spears quite a lot as well. Also, no matter what my main melee skill I use throwing like crazy, so dead ravens and tiny knives can also fall under this section.

I usually just go with the classic longsword. Not exactly unique, but there's a reason longswords are common, after all.

Axe. Dismemberment is fun, and axes are the stuff of badassery when it comes to Dwarven martial trances. And the resulting "spider-webs" of blood from flying body parts are highly amusing.  :P

If I get a crappy axe (or just can't find a good one) I tend to go with coffins.
