My current adventurer is a vampire, and is thirsty. But whenever i fill up my waterskin/backpack with blood from recent kills and drink it, it doesnt go away. Am i doing something wrong?

You can only sate your thirst by sucking the blood of a still-living unconscious creature.

Stand adjacent to or on top of an unconscious critter and press "e"

use quest targets for that: if villagers catch you draining one of them, you'll have to find a new civilization

Or you can use animals, bandits, etc. It really isn't hard to find bloodbags that don't belong to a civilization and beat them unconscious.

Strangle them unconcious - beating them unconcious is risky when done automatically (a wooden sword will easily cave in someone's skull) and tedious and ineffective when done manually - plus there's the danger of them bleeding out.

Just grab some wild animal and choke the living daylights out of that critter.

Or just wait till night and suck the blood of the nearest sleeping noble. Not every civilisation is as quick to rid themselves of those parasites as the dwarves.
