Wait...what?
Trees are trees and creatures are creatures, you can't turn one into the other. Is there something else you mean?

Well, is a severed hand an animal or an object?

Well, is a severed hand an animal or an object?

It is technically an object, but the game recognizes it as a body part that can be animated, so necromancers and evil biomes will reanimate it into a creature again. Contrary to this, as modders we cannot deal much with body parts, I.E. make things into them.

I was hoping that somebody would disagree with me, so that I could tell them to talk to the hand. Zing!

No reanimated fruit or furniture for haunted fortresses?

Man, that's just disappointing.

Supposedly Toady was planning on making more animated objects (like haunted weapons that fly around and attack you) but no word of that planned for any recent release.  That being said, you can make a creature that has all the physical properties of a walking tree/fruit/chair/piano

PIANO.

That should be coming with mansions, but those shouldn't be coming altogether too soon anyway.

If one is looking for ambulatory fruit trees, MyLittleFortress has them.
some of the creatures in the mod aren't compatible with .34 but for purposes it is.
just unpack to a seperate folder, and copy only the files ending in "_ent" and you'll have your domesticated mobile trees

if you want usable fruit from them, you'll need to also copy "building_pony_orchard" and add the following to your playable entity.

Code: [Select]
[PERMITTED_BUILDING:PONY_ORCHARD]
[PERMITTED_REACTION:PONY_PROCESS_APPLE_ENT_APPLES]
[PERMITTED_REACTION:PONY_PROCESS_APPLE_ENT_WOOD]
[PERMITTED_REACTION:PONY_PROCESS_APPLE_ENT_LEAVES]

Technically you could create a tree creature thats composed of wood (like a bronze colossus is composed of bronze) that bleeds sap (If you take the time to make it a material) and has a bark exoskeleton (have to make that a material too). It would be a good deal of work, but it's possible(ish). It wouldn't like take root or sit there or anything, but you could have it drop logs upon death or something like that. Doable.
