The Age Experiment
« on: October 10, 2012, 01:41:43 am »

While being bored, I though, “How long would a Dwarf live if left alone without any real outside interference?”
After thinking for a while, I decided to test this. To do so, I am going to have only the starting seven Dwarfs live, and set immigration to zero. I would then bunker the Dwarfs and try to keep them alive for as long a possible. So I set out to do so.

I chose a relatively good embark, made a good starting team, and am now looking for brave test subjects volunteers to go on the expedition.

My computer restarted so the names have changed, but they still have the same skills

The Dwarfs are as follows:

GreatWyrmBronze, who is a novice miner, a novice mason, a novice engraver, and finally a novice building designer.
Taken by GreatWyrmGold

apiks, who is a novice wood cutter and a novice carpenter.
Taken by apiks

Brewster, a novice miller, novice thresher, novice grower, novice herbalist, novice brewer, and a novice cook.
Taken by Brewster

Overload, a novice weaver, novice clothier, and a novice dyer.
Taken by Overload_C14

Uzol Ushrirkifed, a novice bone/stone/wood/metal crafter, a novice gem cutter/setter, a novice potter, a novice glazer, and a novice wax worker.
Taken by EricBlank, no name specified

Nix, the adequate leader and novice teacher/consoler/record keeper/organizer/appraiser/judge of intent/persuader.
 Taken by NRDL

Uzol Shetbetherith, a novice bowyer, furnace operator, wood burner, mechanic, and fisherman.
Taken by peregarret, no new name specified so im assuming to keep the name

The starting equipment is:
1 copper pick
1 copper battle axe
1 iron anvil
40 dwarves ales
20 dwarves rums
5 plump helmet spawns
5 pig tail seeds
5 cave wheat seeds
4 rock nuts
5 dimple cup spawns
15 plump helmets
15 lama meats’
5 pigtail threads/cloths/bags/ropes
3 saguaro rib buckets
40 shale blocks
10 shale stones
1 ewe
1 ram

If you want a dwarf, then just say which one, and mention if you want them to have a diffrent name. Sadly, I will be starting the experiment within 13 hours of this post(about 12:40 Arizona time) unless all of the dwarfs are taken early. I will include the descriptions of the dwarfs along with the first years progress report. Any subsequent reports may have other time stretches in them.

I claim Zasit. Cage traps everywhere, for taming beasts and using them as meatshields.

I suppose I can claim Sibrek; that poor, hopeless craftsdwarf.

So are you going to kill the two initial migrant waves or lock them out to die, or lock them out to make their own separate hovel?

Im probaly going to have them do most of the external things, such as expanding the bunker and setting the traps up. Basicaly, Im making a fortress with seven nobles that actualy work, but only in their own group, and any other dwarfs that show up are the work force that help "preserve" the founding pioneeres.

90% of this will be in third person. Also, the back story does not follow history, I just thought it was a good reason to why only a few immagrents show up.

After many months of travel, seven dwarves finally reach the lands their king had told them to settle. His only command was, “Wait for more orders, they will be sent soon.” The king had the lands already examined, and the prospect of a volcano and river close to each other were to great for him to pass up. Even though he wanted to use this land, he had yet to think of the use that the dwarves would have for it. His main goal was to just settle it for now.
The seven Dwarves were:

A miner that went by the name GreatWyrmBronze.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Wood cutter that was known as apiks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Jeweler that went by Uzol Ushrirkifed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Crafts dwarf that went by Overload.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Engineer that went by Uzol Shetbetherith.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Farmer that went by Brewster.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the Leader of the group, a Dwarf that went by Nix.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These seven Dwarves had the goal to make their fortress the best that the king wanted, but unfortunately for them, on the way to the location, unknown to them, a uprising against the king had taken place. The uprising was suppressed, but the beloved king was killed in the chaos. The new king was never told about this settlement that had been initiated, so he never sent out any goals for them.

That is where the story begins.

Sorry about anything that is messed up, but this is my first time doing this sort of thing, so it will probaly crash and burn.images fixed
