sent.

I think we need to set up some way to handle players dropping out/generally not playing. I would like someone (a non-player, natch) to volunteer to be the keeper of passwords. You will be sent all the turns (just cc them in your e-mail) and will also be in a position to write summaries for the other spectators (like what Bluerobin is doing in Dom10) or just be amused yourself, if you don't want to write anything. It will be your task to process blank turns if a person doesn't submit for a week (houses which are at war and everyone in the election year and 1 around it can get laxer requirements) as well as to send the turn password to the new player (if the old one is missing 2 turns (i.e. over 2 weeks) in a row). Any objections?

If we have such a volunteer, that'd be fine with me. It's definitely a good idea to have all our passwords in someone else's hands.

Turn sent! Let's have a lightning round!

I would support such an initiative.  I could probably find replacement volunteers in the other game if you guys want.

Also, Al-Malik has the Imperial Regency and I just lost a noble to a partisan ambush.

Yeah those partisans are all cowards anyway- keep killing my scouting militias. If they had a shred of honor, they would face my army instead.

That was me, with 10 votes. I take it you got the Church to vote for you?

And indeed, a1s, damnable partisans. Every turn or so one of my supposedly pacified cities gets captured by a stealth Partisan.

I did not, I got two other players to support me.

This turn will be a little delayed.  I need to carefully consider how to dish out the ministries since I didn't trade away any promises.

Edit: Ghazkull has informed me that he plans to sign Karlito's treaty concerning the neutrality of Ministry forces.  Such a patriotic spirit is exactly the sort of qualities that I feel the commander of the stigmatia garrison must display.

As I've said before, I will only sign the bill once both Ghazkull and a1s have done so. That shouldn't bother you much though since I am positive of which I won't get any ministries.

Edit: In hindsight, Li-Halan having voted for you leads me to assume they've indirectly signed the chart, and as guaranteed previously, House Hawkwood signs the Treaty for the Regulation of Imperial Forces.

The Imperial Fleet and the Imperial Eye will, far more likely than not, go to Hazat and Al-Malik or Hazat and Li-Halan.

The Hazat applaud Lord Alvarex's commitment to peaceful galactic order. Do any other Houses wish to make their public support of the treaty known?

It's always encouraging to see someone discover his love for peace at gunpoint.  Warms the cockles of my heart.

Acceptance speach

Noble Lords and Ladies, it is an honor to accept the role of Regent of the Empire.  Our noble lineage teaches us well of the great weight this office holds.  Humanity is besieged without and within by danger and strife.  It is no easy task to take the mantle of imperial regent after these 400 years of interregnum but with the aid of the great houses humanity will show the strength and virtue that will allow us to persevere in these troubled times.

First and foremost we must stand strong against the Symbiot threat.  We can not allow internal divisions to distract the Stigmatia garrison from it's vital purpose.  We need a garrison commander who will swear not to use the garrison against  his fellow nobles.  It is an honor and a privilege to announce that house Decados has agreed to take up this solemn obligation.  Under the leadership of this noble house we will stand firm against the alien menace.

The other great obligation of this office is overseeing the safe and honorable use of the Imperial Fleet.  And for this great office I can think of no one more qualified then Lazarus of House Hazat.   Lazarus has been committed and outspoken in his belief that the Fleet should be a force standing against aggression and external threat.  His stewardship will surely help make the galaxy a more peaceful and lawful place.

For my own part I will be taking up leadership of the imperial eye and it's sacred vigil.  We must remain ever wary about strife within our own ranks or corruption in the imperial offices.  My house stands committed to upholding the high standards that the imperial offices deserve.

So with the imperial offices in strong, honorable hands let us move forward and end the strife in this galaxy.  Together we will make humanity prosper.

--------

As per our commitment to rule of law, the noble house of al-Malik wishes to bring a dispute before the noble houses of the imperialism in the galactic senate rather then bringing it to the field of battle.  Years ago in the Li Halan incident our house was unjustly imposed upon by our noble brethren in house Hawkwood.  Al-Malik was made to humiliatingly withdraw from Leminkainen in favor of Hawkwood.  Hawkwood however made no concessions of it's own.

It is time for our honor to be restored.  We move that the imperial senate sanction us to claim the planet we were made to shamefully retreat from.   And just as it was unfair for Hawkwood to claim the planet without concession, so too would it be unfair for our house to do the same.  We propose to pay Hawkwood with the most valuable commodity known to the imperium, invaluable space transports.  With the technology to make these ships being lost our offer is generous indeed.

House Al-Malik has at this time two transport ships, the third being unfortunately destroyed by insurgant forces.  We will deliver these transports to House Hawkwood at a place of their chosing once they have ceded control of the planet to us. In this way honor will be satisfied on both sides and we can resolve the matter peacefully.

What do the noble houses say?

Well, mainiac, it was a beautiful ploy, but I rather dislike being blackmailed, I believe the other Houses ought to see this:

You left your capital unguarded... tsk tsk.

Imagine the damage that a player could do in a single turn using the imperial eye.  Right off the bat he could capture and disband 6000 firebirds worth of your gems.  He could capture your palace, factory, fort, church and lab.  He could then churn out heavy infantry in the imperial eye fort while you can only build militia in response because counter attacks will disrupt any factor or fort production.

All in all you could be left scrambling for control of your homeworld.  Oh but wait, it seems that the player with the imperial eye has an agreement with the player controlling the imperial fleet.  Gee, hope you can bring enough forces to bear for you to keep from losing your capital outright.

All in all I'd say you better not antagonize the player with the imperial eye right now...

Considering that I have done nothing that might indicate intent to antagonize you, I take it you want something I have and feel that the time is appropriate to extort it out of me?

I'm pissed about you taking Leminkainen.

Now I am willing to pay you for withdrawing from the planet.  I can compensate you fairly for territory you have taken.  But you took my territory without remuneration and now I want payback.

And what is it you refer to as fair compensation?

I was thinking that 1000 firebirds would most likely more then suffice given that you have not committed much to the planet.

Also, you are mistaken pertaining my expansion into Leminkainen, all cities aside from the Capital road cluster have been conquered, there is already an engineer on the way and I am one turn away from storming the Capital proper.

I see to have underestimated your industry.

I can pay you in space transports, delivered to a location of your choice.  Would this suffice?

That depends, one cannot discuss Leminkainen without first deciding the fate of its sceptre.

Well the scepter is located in the palace which I want.  If the palace were to be rebuilt I would be more amenable.

Also, on the subject of your supporter in charge of the Imperial Fleet, I take it that is Karlito?

Yes.  I'm working on an IC post about that.

Windows Update decided it was a good time to be spiteful towards me.

Before I agree to your terms, might I ask why we are having this conversation behind closed curtains when you have the support of all three other players?

So, my esteemed brothers, what do you say of this shameless attempt by the regent at using the Imperial Factions to extort House Hawkwood into giving them Leminkainen, which they had ceded lawfully?

@Mainiac: should you, indeed, try and use the Eye to seize my Capital, I believe you will be quite surprised at what will come for you from the nearest ruin.

Noble Representatives, Honored Regent, thank you. I am proud to accept the position of Fleet Admiral. You will of course, be right to expect me to abide by the terms of my own treaty, and in this you will not be disappointed. While I will oversee the details of the Fleet's daily operations, it is your rights that the Fleet protects, and it is to your will that the Fleet will ultimately be guided by. Though I will need a free hand dealing with Alien threats, under my direction the Imperial Fleet will take no action against human targets, civilian or military, without a strong mandate from the assembled Houses or in strict compliance with the terms of the Treaty.

((Consider this a response to only the first half of mainiac's post. I'm working on the rest)).
