I'll take a dwarf from the next wave. Brewster "Master Brewer"

I would also like a dwarf.  Lightningfalcon, preferably a militia commander or miner.

From the sketchbook of Grizzlebridges

23rd Felsite 551

Work on our new home has begun. A small living space has been dug out of the cliff face. For now it serves to get us out of the cold weather and to safely store our meagre supplies, but in the future this area will be our grand entrance hall.
The miners told me that they discovered many attractive gem stones whilst they were digging.

GoombaGeek is looking so smug, just because she safely navigated the wagon during our migration. Now she insists on calling herself the 'expedition leader' and is walking around the place like she owns it. So much for everybody being equal! I order her to build a carpenters workshop and build us some beds and a door to keep the draught out. Hopefully this will put her in her place. It will not do to forget who is overseer around here.

Objective is getting a bit above her station too. She has given herself the title of 'The Reader'. Apparently this is a reference to something called 'The Book of Oracle' which is in her possession, although I have never seen such a book I hope it has nothing to do with her silly Zefon religion.

Why any self-respecting dwarf would worship a fire imp is beyond me. Hopefully a bit of hard work will knock the superstition out of her. I set her to build a jewelers workshop and start to make something useful from the rough gems being dug out.

1st Hematite 551
Lightningfalcon came to me today and told me that we should start thinking about our defences. Considering the only wild animals we have encountered so far are kiwis and mountain goats, I think he is being a bit paranoid, but I decided to humour him for now. It might be a good idea to put some walls up to stop the yak running away at least.
Lightningfalcon seemed excited and volunteered to be militia commander for the commune. I handed him our spare axe and told him to go ahead. It would be good to keep him busy, he has been spending far too much time with Objective.

As for me, it is time to show the others that I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I have build a makeshift masons workshop and started building some blocks for our new wall.

26th Hematite 551
It seems the word has spread about our little utopia. Today six migrants arrived, seeking sanctuary from the oppressive regime of the mountainhomes. Among them are:

NESgamer160, a talented weaponsmith, armorsmith and cheese maker.

NotaPirate, also a skilled weaponsmith and armorsmith.

Brewster, self-titled Master Brewer also happens to be a high-master lye maker.

InsanityIncarnate, a worrying combination of butcher and surgeon. Hopefully she wont get the two mixed up.

somebears, novice craftsdwarf and Brewster's husband.

17th Galena 551
It looks like Lightningfalcon was right about the defences. Today we were besieged by a flock of vicious Keas. Nobody was hurt but they stole most of our food supplies.

I have ordered Lightningfalcon to stand guard at the food store while we dig out some underground farms. The last thing I want is for us to go hungry.

10th Limestone 551
Food and drink stocks have completely ran out. I have ordered one of our yaks to be butchered. I shuddered as the defenceless creature was dragged away but InsanityIncarnate seemed positively gleeful. I have also asked Scruffy to gather some plants. I have seen some berry bushes that we might be able to turn into some sort of booze.

6th Sandstone 551
More migrants arrive.... More mouths to feed.... No booze....So thirsty....

12th Sandstone 551
At last! Scruffy found some prickle berries and Brewster managed to turn them into a delicious wine. I have ordered a grand dining hall to be dug out in celebration.

17th Timber 551
Intruder! Two kobold thieves were spotted trying to sneak into the fortress. I sent Lightningfalcons after them but they managed to escape. No doubt they will tell their buddies about us and they will be back. I hurry production of walls and draw up plans for a drawbridge.

6th Moonstone 551
More kobold thieves are seen skulking around our walls. I am not sure what they are trying to steal, since out alcohol stocks have ran out again, we have nothing worth stealing.

3rd Opal 551

Today is a dark day. Although we are gathering plants and farming in an effort to provide brewable fruits, its seems supply is not meeting demand. Lightningfalcon had been missing for a day or two and today his corpse was found atop the hill. His body looked dehrydrated and starved. We really need to caravan to arrive soon.

There is a dark mood among the other dwarves. Whilst I make burial arrangements, I set them a project to take their minds off the tragedy. The central column of our main stairs needs decorating. It is time for it to be engraved, hopefully  some beautiful artwork will cheer the sorry atmosphere.

26th Opal 551

I have no words. Our beautiful society is quickly turning into a living hell. We are forced to eat vermin for sustenance, and now Objective and NESgamer190 have died. I have made a shameful disaster of running this commune. Day by day we grow more thirsty, the farm plots are unproductive and there is no sign of any caravan.
The only good news is that the stairwell engravings are complete.

It is good to see my friends have not lost their artistic spirit in such dark days
I shall take a walk and admire the artworks. There I may find some joy and take my mind off this damned thirst...

Clutched in Grizzlebridges dead hand is a rough drawing. It must have been drawn in the last stages of dehydrated delerium. It is oddly prophetic.

It seems to depict the dwarf Notapirate clearing a large pile of bodies.

[OOC: Okay I royally balls'd this up :( :( :( Im sorry everyone. After I died, MrWillsauce went berzerk and killed everyone apart from Notapirate who managed to take Willsauce down. So we have an understocked fortress with a very unhappy Notapirate running it alone.
I was relying on a caravan but not a single one turned up. I think perhaps I genned a world and picked a spot with no neighbours. I should have checked before embarking but Im stupid. I dont mind not having caravans but if there are no invasions then its going to be a really boring fort.

I guess we have 4 options:
1- Continue for another year (or as long as the fort lasts hoping a migrant wave arrives soon) and see if we get an invasion
2- Abandon now and reclaim, checking neighbour civs more closely than I did.
3- Abandon and pick a new site, or even gen a new world if needed.
4- Quit altogether

Its Mrwillsauce's turn next, so you get to decide, but Im not sure what everyone wants to do...?

Any thoughts?]

Uploading the save now...

NotaPirate scowled. It was filled with desperation more than anger, but it was a scowl. Everyone was dead, save for her, killed by the hands of her own kin. She was thirsty, too thirsty to even bury the corpses that littered the dung hole that had been dug out. Why had she gone to this place? Fame and riches they said, a load of bull, to be sure. And instead of having sweet metal to shape into fiery weapons of war as she was meant to, she ended up living through a slaughterfest which almost took her life.

She chewed her cheek as she stared down the rotting body of objective, his skin, or what's left of it, dried as a prune. There had to be something she could; no way she was going to end up like the rest of the corpses. Her eyes slowly drifted to her hands, and then to the fields.

"...Well, I suppose I can do something with these...I hope."

(I vote we should continue. It's part of being badass afterall.)

Mrwillsauce expressed her artistic spirit by painting the stone with dwarven blood.

I think we should gen a new world and start from scratch. Feel free to redo your turn if you wish. I normally would prefer reclaiming or running the destroyed husk of a fort into the ground, but I'm not very much attached to this one and all of the characters are dead. If you have any saves from earlier before the fort went to total shit, I think we should savescum and revert to them.

E: OR you could skip my turn and go straight to NotaPirate, who could do his turn. After he's done, we could go back to me and continue down the turn order.

[A scrawling was found on part of the book found in the slade ruins. Unlike others, it is still fresh]

Zefon! Please light the fires to guide us in the darkness. My husband had passed away, and now I find my life a void again. I am so hungry, so, so hungry...

[Rest of the page is a crude drawing. The substances are verified, please do not touch it.]

((Also my drawings are not THAT bad. I was just lazy))

[Also the book is still intact, which means it's my turn]

So NotaPirate, what do you say? Want to do your turn and run the fortress as a lone dwarf?

I'm still on the second though, and roleplay reasons don't override the orders.
Let's just say Armok possessed him or something.

Also I took a look around the fort. It seems salvageable. I'll just have to get NotaPirate to gather from plants, then we'll brew some drinks, then he'll be fueled for a while, in which I will obviously have him make more and more alcohol. I will probably use up the woods too because rocks take too long at this point. If I keep him alive long enough and somehow take him not go berserk we might get some migrants, and then we'll be saved.

I vote we continue, as long as we have neighbors.  It's relatively boring without someone to wage war with.
