Timber and Stone
« on: October 08, 2012, 01:19:48 am »

Some folks might be interested in this. I just discovered this game on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1102507263/timber-and-stone

It's another DF-like with voxels, but I really like where this is going. The videos show pretty good progress, especially considering the developer's only been at it for 6 months. It's going to have a tough time competing against Towns, Gnomoria and Castle Story (and of course a lot of people will write it off as "another Minecraft clone"). I like the way he takes advantage of the graphics model to give visual detail to the complex physics in games like this. You can see this in the videos, such as the difference between skilled and unskilled archers' practice shots, using a ballista to impale a hostile on a distant tree, or how bodies get scattered into the air when hit by a catapult rock. I do enjoy the macabre prospect of DF level gore with voxel detail :)

It does look interesting, sadly, it doesnt look like it is going to meet its goal though.

Looks pretty sweet.  Hopefully they make it.

If he can't make it, I hope he at least releases an alpha or demo or something. This game looks awesome.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

We probably have enough people here that we can get him to make it.

I read the title of this thread and thought to myself that this better not be another damn Kickstarter. I am disappointed once again but despite that I hope it goes through for the sake of those who would want to play it.

Honestly, if I wanted a DF-like I would play Dwarf Fortress - a game I am currently at odds with due to some variant hybridization of wanting, creativity and sandbox paralysis. I do hope the rest of you get a chance to play Timber and Stone though despite my disinterest and dislike for the vast majority of DF-likes.

I like its look. It gives me that distinct minecraft-pre-haloween-alpha feel. Definitely a plus.

A sudden leap from 90$ to 2000$ is not a good thing, in my opinion.

Read the rewards. The 2000 one is a lot different from the other ones.

Yes I just realised that.
But still, a bit pricey.

I am thinking of backing this.  Looks awesome, if it works out.

It's good to see some interest in the game. When I first posted this no one replied for a while so I assumed people weren't that keen.

I'm all for seeing more games of this type appear and actually create a genre distinct from city builder sims. This game itself doesn't interest me too much because there's no hauling mechanic, making it essentially a Minecraft-like instead of a DF-like. But it's the most appealing game of that type i've seen.

He should have picked a more realistic kick starter goal though.

I think the bigger issue than the goal is the 20 days he gave himself to get it, even though he hadnt set up the website etc at that stage.  Kind of surprised he hasnt shown up here yet though, he is apparently a DF enthusiast.

OI, COME TALK TO US ABOUT YOUR GAME
