Poor elves. They get no respect.

Good thing you didn't try that with the High Elves, though. Their guards are usually well equipped and I doubt you'd have gotten the better end of that fight.

I'd forgotten about them to be honest. They pulled onto the map just as i gave te kill order and my first thought was "Well, I guess I'll be doing som trading after all!" Got a wolf from them and some metal and seeds, but I'm not done with them yet.

I forgot about the other caravans. I killed the tree humpers to keep migrants at bay but clearly that's not going to happen.

The last week of spring and the first of summer were spent with Corai and Lev alternating the trade of a half ton of carved bone goods for as many provisions as they could get, along with a few spare things just in case. Mantis also nicked several crafts and purchased for herself a set of greaves and a flask. Targe and Squid also begged for the Land Strider that the high elves brought to sell, but had to be contented with a wolf that was valued by Corai at nearly eight times less than the giant land strider. “Oh well... This little fellow will have to do as an addition to our little herds.” Targe said as he stuck a hand in the wolf cage. To everyone's surprise, it was actually rather friendly. “Well! Aren't you the sociable little bugger!” Targe said as he managed to pat it on the head. “Lone wolf we found near death outside our settlement. We fed it and decided it'd probably sell well somewhere when our friends from the dwarven merchant guild told us about you.” The head high elf merchant said. “Well I'm sure we'll have us a wonderful little mascot.” Targe said as he opened the cage. “Ok all! We have us a wolf up for adoption! First come, first serve!” he called out. “Pardon miss, how much for that set of lamellar leggings?” Wax asked looking through the wares. “One hundred fifteen coin or some stuff of equal or greater value.” One of the guards blurted out. “Well! I'd say we can arrange for that. Feral, do you mind?” Feral shrugged. “I guess not. Oh, here. Got a flask for you since you killed that monstrosity that tore Chops apart.” Wax took the gift, and seemed a touch downcast. “Thanks Feral.... I'll see if I can't get a little extra along with my new metal pants.”

True to his word, he managed to score an additional bit of medical equipment. “Feral! I figured I'd put together a list of what we bought and what we traded for it, for you to look over.” Corai said, handing Feral a sheet of paper:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

“Merchants got everything we have we can trade. Gonna need to be quick about getting some good for whomever arrives later this season.” Corai said, casting a glance on the small bundle of metal bars. “Plus we may be able to talk Splint into making Mantis a proper metal blade from that brightsilver.” Feral just hummed a response, and finished going over the list. “And the high elves?” “They said they want to stay here for a little bit and would like us to consider the seeds as their payment for staying a while longer.” Feral thought for a moment. “Alright. I see no harm in that. Tell them to avoid spreading word of us to anyone but other merchants.”
-
“Hey Splint! Come on in it's raining!” Wax called out to the weaponsmith as he carried his ingot of brightsilver to the forge under one arm, a bundle of charcoal under the other. “Your point?” He said irritably. “My point being you might get sick being out in the rain all the time.” Wax replied, slightly annoyed. “What's wrong man?” He said, sitting on a box next to the forge. “Mona.” Splint said flatly. “What about her?” “We've been getting into arguments nonstop lately, so I'd prefer to avoid her. Besides, I'd like to get Mantis her sword before the 20th.” Wax sighed. “Alright man, I understand. You have a good one ok?” He said in a  comforting manner. Splint said nothing, simply beginning to light the furnace and ready his tools.

[So, it seems my dwarf has formed a grudge with Mona, Mantis now has the wierdest assortment of armor ever with a proper short sword, Asea's hermit hut is nearly finished, and headstones have been raised for the fallen elf merchants and Lordrushed, the dwarf eating giant squirrel. Oh and three thives stole some of Chops' old clothes.

When finished, Asea's hut will feature
- A pell so he may train in his free time.
- A small plot to grow his own food in.
- A still and kitchen, for obvious reasons.
- A bedroom of course.
- A large living room complete with fireplace.
- If I can get a hold of it, all oaken furnishings.
- Either a cat or breeding pair of peregrin falcons to kill vermin around the hut.
- weapon traps outside the door, cage traps inside.

A mess hall is about to be installed above the dormitory, and the managerial offices are being furnished with stone furiture.]

Pity there weren't any better metals for arms/armor in that set. But at least you've got something to make decent trade goods out of.

Hey, even a silver sword is better than a stone one. Otherwise it would have been destined to become a goblet like the rest of the metals. There's a reason her kill was a shield bash.

Mantis' bizzar loadout
1 decorated cedar breatplate
2 -chestnut high boots-
1 *brightsilver shortsword*
1 -kiteshield- (I forget the wood material. Chestnut I think)
1 set of decorated copper greaves
2 iron lamellar gauntlets

Bright Silver isn't too bad for blades. Not as good as steel, but much better than stone for sure. I wasn't downplaying your choice with it (And a * quality sword should be quite handy). I was simply lamenting that there wasn't anything better to be had.

I'm glad it was as cheap as it was for a weaponsgrade metal that wasn't copper or bronze. All I had were the bone goods left over from slaying the giant squirrels and those of a yak bull that had been slaughtered, along with a  few totems. At least now a few metal odds and ends will buy us some more provisions come the end of the season.

Oh, would you prefer the great library be built above ground or below?

Yeah, I'd go with below. More dwarfy that way. It should definitely be multi-level, though.
