Man, this guy took a beating like a champ. I, Tis Bowbelly, slashed both his eyes out, spilled his guts, pulped his head (fractured his skull with a sword, eleven times), stabbed out every internal organ he has, as he threw up and laid there, taking it. Eventually, he bled out.

Kinda makes me glad DF is ASCII, don't know if I could stomach what this big cat would look like now

Try taking on a Giant Horseshoe Crab.
It will PUSH you to death.
All you can cut off is it's tail, so bleeding out is slow, if not, very unlikely.
It doesn't have a head you can target.
Chitin deflects most weakish-normal slashes, guess what a crab is made of?

All and all, it's my favorite animal.

I'm sure I would've been destroyed (eventually) by the Giant Lion if I didn't get some lucky shots in. Wrecked some nerves in his leg, so he fell over, then I slashed him 'til he gave into the pain, then kept retching.

Sadly, between the OP and now, I went to a camp, and after almost killing the overlord, he started running and screaming like a wuss.
All his lackeys ganged up on me
Amount of armour I had on, my time to die was comparable to the lion's. Not as much damage, though.

Yeah, at least it's not like it was earlier, where you couldn't take two steps without bandits absolutely destroying you.
