I'm doing this. Because this is totally the right way to get back into the game after never getting past the very basics. Right?
Very High number of large beasts and High savagery should be fine.

Started with two Woodcutters/Carpenters, a Carpenter/Building Designer, one wood/bone crafter that can eventually grow things, a fisherman, a Crossbowman/butcher and a Brewer/Cook. I have no idea what I'm doing but hopefully it will go horribly wrong.

Good luck, also remember elves are your worst friend and you should kill all of them.

Gaah, I'm starting to get really tired of moody dwarves demanding stone. This one has way too many friends, and my fortress is really short on happiness inducers. This is gonna be fun.

Okay, One of my guys just went batshit crazy and attacked my dwarfs, So I had to put him down.
Everyone is miserable now, Tantrum Spiral here we go!

Update: Tantrum spiral is ensuing
A child attacked my woodcutter and he dodge into the local stream!

It's the only water I have, rain happens, and how much will dwarves need water, anyways?
And, again, what other options do I have? Magma wells?
Seeing how you will either have to make booze from surface plants which take a long time to get a farm working, or drink water.... You will need water, otherwise you will have no food reserves.
I have a still and a strawberry patch, and an herbalist. What else could I need?

I'm hoping to make the OP, but my limited time makes that unlikely...

I'm in my second year, I have the beginnings of a glass and clay industry and my first axe lord. Yet, I'm giving up. The 'cancel construction due to creature occupying site' bug is too much for me. Particularly considering everything needs to be built. I'll revisit the challenge down the road in the next release.

I have to say, I really do like this challenge. Its fun to have to think about things differently. But the bug thing. Man. Just wanted a nice protected staircase and a second floor to my fort and the dorfs...just...wouldn't...do...it. Always standing on the wall to be built instead of building it from the inside. Grrrrr!

The real downside of not being able to mine: not having a nice easy way to kill everyone off in the fort. I would have collapsed the entire fort in on them if I could have.

My copy of the DF folder got corrupted. Thankfully, the save could be salvaged. My glass industry is up an' running, so yay. My biggest problem is my glassmaker's work ethic. I'm doing fairly well, though, with some farms. For now, I'm making do with wooden platforms. I'll add more green glass structures once migrants let me expand the green glass industry.

I forgot how stupid dwarves are about building next to bridges.

Over a volcano.

Which led me to realize what a major fortress-killer of this challenge will be: no slabs.

Autumn has come. A family with three kids and a second fishery worker (the first was the father in the family) arrived in summer. Two new glass furnaces are up, boosting glass production. Yay!
