Welcome, to the chance of a lifetime. The chance to grab a spot in the chronicles of Elchandaar.
Elchandaar is a roleplaying game, run on a Homebrew based on a throw and keep system. It's running in a richly detailed, original setting, and is now looking for a handful of new players. That is, because two of our players sadly had to take on their duties in the military, and thus we rarely get enough players on the table to run a session.
Note that this is not technicaly a forum-game, as it is not taking place on the Forums. The current players however, consist entirely of forumites, and we are hoping to stay in that tradition. The actual game takes place on the IRC-channel #botg on newnet.net (same server as the bay12 channel).
Usual playtime is Saturday afternoon, european time. Character sheets are shared via dropbox.
The game is taking on the northern continent of
Aurea.
Whatever lies beyond Murcenia remains mostly unknown to the PCs, similar can be said to Welloy and Kel. The groups current focus largely remains within Lysonia, a Nation of knights, serfs and nobles, driven by a common belief. Virtue. The believe in the seven virtues, loyalty, courage, justice, valor, courtesy, honesty and duty is basicaly a religion for them, and as such, Lysonia spend the last hundreds of years doing their best to spread it - by the blade. The virtues, in their deified form are currently the focus of the main questline.
Lysonia's expansionist career has come to man sudden halt, when the Emerald Horde emerged. A nation of the undead, lichs, vampires and generaly "the old" has by now conquered the entire western half of Lysonia, the entirety of Carlenia (a nation of music and art), as well as the western half of the Theocracy of Velpania, land of the ten thousand gods, coming to a stop at the great border river. Other nations of note include Tirenia, a philosophic democracy, wugrotel, a nation that holds law above all else, zelendar, land of the mercenaries, and Lesthreim, the barbarian lands of the north.
Among all of these, there is one that stands out the most, the city-state of Excelsior (nestled between Tirenia, Zelandar, Velpania and Lysonia. As the centre of the worlds commerce, it's the PCs main hub. If you have money, there is NOTHING excelsior can not offer.
Magic in this world is strictly regulated, by an organisation known as the Tower. Your friendly neighbourhood mage council, protecting the poor defenceless humans from the dangers of magic. Any mage that has not sworn loyalty to the tower is known as a heretic, and leads a risky life, depending on where he is, and how he came to his magic skills. Lysonia does not accept the towers sovereignity, having their own mage-order in the form of the Knights of the Chrysanthenum. Other nations that do not obey the tower are Pelurion, a rather unknown and xenophobic nation to the far east, believing in their own superiority in...well, everything. The other nation is the sultanate of the Redajin, a great desert nation across the southern ocean.
the current game is split into 3 storylines, and as a result, the current players all have 3 characters
Poltifar:
Pierre, a reknown alchemist and redajin mage. Greatly knowledgable in about all sciences.
Alberto, short-tempered, but honorable carlenian fighter. In an eternal rivalry with Maximillian.
William, a musician. Totaly just a musician, that is his only profession, nothing illegal going non here.
Dwarfaholic:
Atlai, skilled tactican, leader of a influential mercenary guild, and a total bro.
Maximillian, arrogant noble, and avid collector of hats. In an eternal rivalry with Alberto.
Robert, a lysonian knight, the sworn protector of Hariasa.
Akroma
Yamato, warrior in the name of peace, getting into a constant conflict with his own motivations. Tends to do stupid things.
Hariasa, shaman of the northern tribes, in exile. Heretic mage, and coward through and through.
Evangeline, lysonian noble, and a spoiled brat. Has read one too many adventure novels. Atlai's apprentice.
This game has been going on for a long while, so I will not be recounting everything that happened. Important is the event that caused the group to split, and the paths they are now taking.
The calamity:
After learning that the groups nemesis, Lyonel Devreau (commonly just refered to as Red, due to his red cloak), was going to make an attempt at the Lysonian Kings life, the group hurried to prevent that from happening. Little did they suspect how very unpreraed they were for the true form of Devreaus attack. Utilising an ancient form of magic, Devreau broke a seal that held some sort of eldritch horror in slumber (codename: geodude). Being of...formidable size, it wrecked havoc, the king among the victims, and is now laying waste to norther lysonia. What's worse that where it broke through, the fabric of the world shattered, letting in the darkness that lays beyond. Slowly spreading over the world, it might as well spell the worlds end.
the quest:
the path of the beast
Pierre, Hariasa and Robert are attempting to find out a way to stop the great beast, and stop the darkness. Obviously, darkness is not thrilled to be stopped, and does everything in it's power to prevent that, costing the lives of hundreds of knights so far.
the path of the blade
Yamato, Maximillian and Alberto are attempting to bring Devreau to justice, chasing him across the country. But Devreau is a formidable foe. Latest events indicate that he has connections to a unknown god of shadows, and that the events going on are far bigger than what has actually transpired. Including the murder of countless minor gods.
the path of the coin
A giant beast devastating the landscape, and eternal night spreading? Sounds like Profit to me! Atlai, Evangeline and William, having access to a ship, are currently paying visit to the rich and noble in the threathened regions, selling them tickets for a save passage to Lysone, the capital of lysonia, on an archipelago in the central ocean. Sweet sweet profit.
A mostly complete explanation of the system can be found in our very own
Elchandaar-wiki.
However, unless you are a mage, the system is very simple.
A Character has 8 traits, stamina, dexterity, perception, strength, willpower, appearance, empathy and wits. Together with various skills, usual rolls are
Y keep X. That is to say, you throw Y amount of dice (skill+trait) and keep a number of them, usualy the highets ones (just trait). If the roll beats a TN, the roll passes, with the minimal result. The TN to be hit by an enemy in combat is called the PD, the passive defence, which depends on Dex and the defence skill. Attack rolls are usualy made on Perception and the weapon skill. Damage is determined by strength, health determined by stamina and willpower.
To gain a better result, a player has to announce raises before the roll is made, increasing the TN of the roll by 5. Maximum amount of raises is your skill.
To gain better chances at passing a roll, a player has the resource known as fate. It's the bread and butter of surviving the game. Fate has several uses.
- Absorb 10 points of damage. Very very useful
- Raise your PD by 10 for a round of combat, useful when fighting many enemies
- Raise your skill by 1 for one roll. useful if you lack the skill you are rolling on, because that gives penalties
- Gain a free raise, increasing the result of a roll without increasing the TN
- Add +5 to a roll
- Add 1k1 to a roll
For the magic rules, refer to the wiki, because I don't really know left from right in magic.
Know that there are 2 kinds of magic though:
Universal magic, which means bending the flow with your mind. Very versatile, but not very strong.
Ritualistic magic, which means bending the flow through rituals, chants, runes, etc. Stronger than universal magic, but can only be used for fixed effects. Also, very dangerous if used the wrong way.
your playstyle so far does not matter. what we are really looking for is a reliable player, that will show up often, and not suddenly drop out, making this entire recruiting part pointless, and stopping us in our tracks again. Though note that this game is mostly RP-heavy, and in-character talk is standard. For ooc talk, we have a seperate channel.
The setting is fluent, so technicaly any fantasy character-concept is feasible. Though that needs to be discussed with the GM.
european timezones prefered, americans would have to get up rather early.
If you are unfamiliar with IRC, dont fret, this is easy. IRC is a chat network, which can be accessed through client programms. You'll need to download IceChat.
When you start it up for the first time, it'll ask you for a nickname (which can be changed later), and if you want to add servers to the list.
Add the server irc.newnet.net
On the left side of the screen, there is a bar with the servers. Double-click newnet to connect to it, and then type /join #botg
there you go, that wasn't too hard
[Spoiler=what is dropbox?]
Dropbox is a programm that stores files online, and makes them accessible from a list of computers. If you decide to join the game, the GM will send your dropbox account an invite, and you will be able to access all files needed for the game.
Note that dropbox is OPTIONAL. If you do not want to install it, though it is recommended, you can still access your character sheet on the wiki. However in that case, you will have to keep track of your health on your own, and the GM will keep track of it on his own, same goes for when you gain exp and increase your stats. Since there have been problems in the past where the GMs sheet did not match the players sheet, dropbox is the prefered method.
Interested players, please visit us at #botg on newnet.net or via PM
There, all your questions will be answered. If you wish to give this game a testrun, refer to Istrian, our GM. Or if he is busi, I guess any of the players will do.
We will run you through character creation, and once enough people have expressed interest, Istrian will run one or two test-session, so you can check wether this game is right for you, and so we can check if you are right for the game.
I am looking forward to your interest
