Try the liquid, then try out The Alchemist's plan.

There's no need to eat the tiny bearded men. We can get them to give us the liquid!

Wrong place for modding help, but I can't get this syndrome
Code: [Select]
[SYN_NAME:web paralysis]
[SYN_CONTACT]
[SYN_AFFECTED_CLASS:GENERAL_POISON]
[SYN_IMMUNE_CREATURE:SPIDER_CAVE:ALL]
[CE_PARALYSIS:SEV:100:PROB:100:START:5:PEAK:20:END:40]
onto this interaction
Code: [Select]
[CAN_DO_INTERACTION:MATERIAL_EMISSION]
[CDI:ADV_NAME:Spray web]
[CDI:USAGE_HINT:ATTACK]
[CDI:BP_REQUIRED:BY_TOKEN:LB]
[CDI:MATERIAL:LOCAL_CREATURE_MAT:POISON:WEB_SPRAY]
[CDI:TARGET:C:LINE_OF_SIGHT]
[CDI:TARGET_RANGE:C:5]
[CDI:MAX_TARGET_NUMBER:C:1]
[CDI:WAIT_PERIOD:30]
Ignore the creature_mat names, that was from previous experimentation.

Anyway...

You try the liquid, and it is possibly the best thing you have ever imagined. Now you know you must recover more of it, and you think some of these cavern creatures will help you on your quest. You strike a menacing pose and the troglodytes fall over from sheer terror before you point in the general direction of the door. Only now do you realize that you have no means of verbal communication with them, so you tap the purple liquid spill, then the door. They seem to understand, although the giant cave spiders are content to lay in ambush for the bearded men and won't go any further. You bash down the door, and rush in, but the shaft is deserted. Looking up, you see a few dusty casks and a few goblets and crafts, although none are made of the yellow metal like the first one. Down, you see a very long staircase to a deep red glow. The sounds of machinery click through the walls, and heat radiates from them. You also hear more tapping on stone. Before you can decide, a group of five bearded men run down the stairs, each wearing one or two pieces of mismatched armour. They level their weapons at you, unprofessionally. What? You thought the bearded men were friends! Why can't they just share the liquid? The troglodytes look ready for battle. Now what?

> note: we can't do any actual fighting until I work out the paralysis webs, I'll go ask around in Modding

I might be mistaken but webs won't carry contact poison unless you make them explode into toxic gas by setting fixed temp really high.

>Betray the trogs and web them up. Make a friendly gesture towards the dwarfs and carve a request for more liquid in the stone. If they haven't decided to try to kill us then we can decide what to do.
>>Otherwise if they try to kill us just volley webs at them and loot them of any containers they may have, oh and take away their weapons. Then engrave a request for the liquid otherwise we kill some of them(make sure to make it clear that one barrel equals one dwarf free). Then release one of them, show them the engraving, make sure they understand and then let them leave to retrieve the liquid.
(If we can't engrave just draw some blood from the trogs and use that to draw.)

The Alchemist's idea is good.

You need to add syndromes to the web material.

I'm assuming contact syndromes. The problem with that is "will it get into the dwarf effectively enough"?

If it evaporates into mist that causes systemic paralysis, you get death.

Just kill them.  Wait for the trogs to go first.

[Combat tests reveal that ~(30/30) times, Xom bites things' heads off. I pretty much just copied the Giant Cave Spider raws, made everything gabbro, and upsized him quite a bit, but yeah. I haven't seen him do a single non-head non-bite attack.]

You take a mental step back for a bit. Now, these creatures are odd, as you've never seen anything with such a shell, or such supple beards (once you saw a troglodyte with a sad little lip-warmer, but that was long ago). But they have the secret of the purple liquid, the ability to craft things out of metals, and they can break free of the caverns! What lies above? Why are they not accustomed to the darkness like you are, instead lighting their path through artificial means? These mysteries must be solved! And while webbing these three chumps may give you some time to pore over their works in other chambers attached to the stairwell, these troglodytes will certainly raise the alarm if they storm the building, and you're sure there are more than three in these chambers. The best solution is to try to work something out with the beards.

You can either kill the trigger-happy trogs, or try to disarm the bearded men, but they may flee, and you don't really do non-lethal combat. You leap on the troglodytes and rip off their heads, and blood sprays everywhere, coating your gabbro face (which probably won't help you when it comes to not scaring the beards). Before the beards have time to run away, you tap a still-remaining spill of the purple liquid and look expectant.

They are stunned, and run away as fast as they possibly can, babbling among themselves once more. You turn around and are just about to amble back into the cavern to wait when a troglodyte jumps up from nowhere and looks very angry. You web him and another troglodyte suddenly emerges from behind a mushroom, only to run away at maximum troglodyte speed. The beards' voices are still far away, but it sounds like more are beginning to speak up as well. Now what?
