Theor sighs deeply after being released, moving to the barracks. Nothing to do and nothing to see for him. He just needed some time alone and if he could choose, stay that way until the next mission came to shake him off his fell mood.
Theodor gets to the barracks/sleeping quarters to rest there.
So you do, collapsing into your bunk without bothering to shower or undress. Sleep takes you.
The dreams come.
You find yourself back on the battlefield. You're in a field of cabbage...and wearing a suit of purple rubber armor and carrying a ridiculously oversized rifle. What the...?
There's a chittering noise from the South. Stealthy, low-but almost taunting. You can see a pair of gleaming white, grinning teeth in the dark.

Lake looked at the VR screens. The action was getting underway without him. While learning how potential teammates acted under fire would be good to know, seeing it all live perhaps wasn't the best use of his time. Besides, he owed that weapons testing range another visit- hopefully Duke or whatever that douche's name was is gone by now.
"Thanks all the same, but I'll just catch the highlight film. Let me know how it turns out, hey? I'm checking back down with the weapons testing.
Say above, then head back down to the live-fire range to see if any more explosives testing needs his help.
So you go!
...
You arrive to find Austin Blue, Experimental Weapons Theorist, picking over the remains of the bomb you detonated. He seems to be doing chemical tests.
"...hello there. Don't worry, they've said it's safe. I'd still wear a pair of gloves though..." The young man says without looking up at you, in a cultured Northern accent.

Feeling no guilt for hopefully keeping a liability away from him when on active duty, Kane goes for a wander of the base facilities, keeping an eye out for any interesting places - interesting being where new, shiny and hi tech gear is to be found, especially if it is linked to unorthadox warfare methods.
Find the mad scientists! Be thier guinea pig/victim!
You take a few hours exploring the base.
Of most interest to you is the Experimental Weapons, Med-lab, and Main Engineering-all sorts of tests are going on..

"Understood..." Don't even talk about it. Try to make eye contact, at-least.
So you go-to grueling, dirty, humiliating training.
They seem to be teaching alot about grenade safety.
...
At the end of the day, you are summarily dismissed-and told to be back at 5pm sharp the next morning. You're hungry, filthy...angry. But at what? Yourself? The Aliens? Xcom?
What do you do now?
====================================================================================
Follow.
After being lead through the facility a bit by the mysterious woman...
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=117096.msg3698080;topicseen#msg3698080Your VR experience is a little more abrupt-your physical self remains mostly unchanged, but when you open your eyes you realize water is pooling around your feet...your Higgins boat is sinking-and you're carrying a heavy, tubular Rocket Launcher, along with a pistol and grenades.
The beach is about 70 yards from where you are. An easy swim, if you weren't carrying all this gear and being shot at constantly.
Time to sink or swim, squaddie.

Omaha Beach VREd leans out and lays down suppressing fire, grimacing.
(Under Cover, cannot be targeted this turn, Can transition to next cover without rolling)Carinthir [3] scrambles to his feet-seeing that other guy burst into flames was a nice wake up call. He dives behind a...piece of sheet metal? Look like it was from a destroyed tank...poor cover, but something
(Under Partial Cover, attacks have a 50% chance to miss you)Ria [6+1] Ria recalls her training...and everything slides into place. She begins to mark out targets in the distance, planning her next moves. In a way it seems...easy.
(+1 To all rolls for rest of VR)She looks around for friendlies [3+1] and spots a few other squads of what she assumes are A.I allies-they are pinned down and not moving, a bit a ways away. But it'll be a risk to go and get them-nor are they guaranteed to listen...but they could help.
(Under Cover, cannot be targeted this turn)Andrew/Andrea slides snugly behind the next piece of stable cover without any problems, firing off a few rounds from his/her SMG-trying to converse ammo as much as possible
(Under Cover, cannot be targeted this turn)Alexandre [3][3][6-1=5] ignores Abellos words before as a burst of plasma fire sears the sand aside him. Concentrating, fires off a few rounds from his pistol as he moves forward, adding to volley of covering fire. He dives into the crater easily, popping his head up. It's about 30 yards to the first barbed wire wall-a tough run, but he thinks he has a good route planned...
(Under Cover, cannot be targeted this turn)Aria stays put in a relatively safe place, trying to control her breathing
(Under Cover, cannot be targeted this turn)[6] The volume of fire is lighter this time, but it keeps heads down.
((Team Ammunition depleted 15%, -1 to all enemy attack rolls this turn.))

The Aliens don't any easy targets, so they begin to concentrate fire on the beach indiscriminately.
Ed hits the dirt as three heavy volleys rattle across his cover-when he pops his head back up. he finds the metal sloughing away right in front of his eyes. It won't take another hit...
Ria ducks as well, feeling deadly blue fire blocked by a meager wall of steel. She's not sure how long she can stay here.
Andrew and Alexandre attract a few scant shots. Andrew merely ducks down into the crater-Alexandre flinches back as metal shards fly back into his face. Ow.
....
The entire team hears a whistling noise at this point. Eyes turn to the sky...

Alexandre curses as two massive explosions hammer his immediate left and right, spraying the beach with sand. Mortar fire! From what he remembers, range finding back in this time was slow but steady. If his team doesn't keep moving...
Aria spots another shell arcing over her-she ducks, uselessly, but it sails right over her head and lands about 150 yards out into the ocean.
