Yes. Some sort of self-defense is vital, and no shotguns are available.
Sure, a revolver is nice,  but sometimes you just need to remove a limb or two.

Have the gun pointed in front of us as we kick open the door to the bar and grab the machete. If we see anything move, we bust a cap in its ass.

I say we aim to the head with a bullet propelled by gunpowder, that way the blood in the brain will be warm and we can think things trough instead of intestine chopping and human butchering.
