Thats the problem with your small size.
Your going to need an ally with the man power to protect you and to get food from.
You could make an alliance with somebody who borders you who has spare food in exchange for your armed force's and theirs working together but you don't have much else to offer.

There's a huge coast we can build you somewhere for that :).

Give me an extra 100 enchants and scrap the research :).
Your the science guy I'm a soldier all I want is the enchants to give my men an advantage in battle and to counter the other nations with magic.
Hmm I'm gonna be paying you a lot since I need 11200 enchants for my royal guard regiment alone and thats before I get my cavalry.
Are you sure you understand how mercs work? We'll let you buy our services, and give us the basic idea of what you done, but it's my commanders and me who decide how to carry them out, you can't just bring my cav into your personal guard because they aren't your personal guard. Their loyalty belongs to me not you, and you only get men if I feel I should side with you.

I'll back USEC's order before I do your nation if he deems you to be heretics, also keep in mind my forces also participant in battles against two nations that have bought my forces simply for the fact I will not harm my rep or job opportunity with either faction.

As for cost of a unit of food I'd assume the price would be around 1 silver worth or 8 iron worth (in coins not bars)

If this turns bad, I'm not backing anyone.

I don't want USEC on me for being heretical/perverse to their aims, so let it be known I want nothing to do with war.  I will enchant weaponry and teach, but I want no part in war.

Sorry if I sound paranoid, but I'd rather not see my research/science-magic group get wiped.

No worries Elf I don't expect you to fight for me.
But I have 2 allies who will fight with me and I have possibly the largest and best equipped army to boot so your completely safe inside my lands Elf.

The holy order won't like me since those of my people who do worship a god worship the Norse gods so they are pagans.

I wonder if that will be enough for the order to try to attack me or not.

It meant I would have them working along with my personal guard regiment meaning they would likely be used for flanking charges on enemies engaged with my guard.
But that My cavalry bit has nothing to do with your men no way I'm giving mercenaries enchanted armor.
I've been making arrangements to get horses of my own to build my own heavy cavalry force.

Would 1 gold bar be enough to hire your heavy cavalry for 1 year?

The cost of food is pretty variable but I paid above that for the food I'm importing.

And my people are atheists. I'm thanking my stars that I allied with someone who won't screw me for being atheistic, potentially, since most of the others would distrust both of us, you for being pagan, me for being atheistic.

Don't worry we are not the only non Christians. Neither of my allies are Christian either.

So if the holy order wants to persecute us for being non Christian we can persecute them for being Christian.

I'm pretty sure our combined forces could obliterate the holy order if they really want to push it but they have no reason to so it should be ok.

Not when those recruits are only in it for the killing/glory.

No offense.
Some are. Some aren't.

Would it be possible to get a scanned map? (I find it hard to see details on the map :P )
I'll try.

Child of Armok: If you have miners, you can mine. You might even have some minerals worth trading! If not, you could always sell stone blocks for construction. I'm still working out the specifics of how mining works.

Armok me and Vonyx have a deal for you I'll pm you the details.
Could I also see the deal?

If this turns bad, I'm not backing anyone.

All things considered, that's pretty smart.

Anyone who wants to mine, let me know so I can give you mines.

Elf im willing to provide sanctuary for your sect if you are willing to work in my Library and share your findings with us. I can provide alchemical  ingredients and
protection outfits for any outside research.

As for the mines i have my crystal gardens but i can use some quicksilver and Tetrahedrite.

Are we having fantasy materials in this?
Or are we going to stick with only real materials?
