create a set amount of coins for the kingdom with a exchange rate thats dictated by the king. After that you can rely on supply and demand for the cost of the materials, note the exchange rate should be lower than the value of the object to avoid inflation.

Was the point of this not to make the game less complicated?
Now we're adding rates of exchange and inflation?

Well, let's make some coins and let market forces sort out the rest for now.

Pieces of eight, and silver nobles, along with pennies. I think that just about every piece of history and culture (at least western) knows that a penny is near worthless. Pennies are therefore important. If only for symbolism.

Pennies can be the lowest unit of currency, maybe a little copper or some low-tin pewter coin.

In this kind of system with players not AI though setting a price on any item would be near impossible.
It'd be more then likely some players would decide what they are selling is worth more then the set price and would refuse to accept less then what they think it is worth.
Or players would decide something is worth less and refuse to buy it unless the other players lowers the price or the equivalent price in materials.

Plus we have some nations that do not even have anything to do with the king so the prices with them would probably be totally different from any we did set for our own.
Wow... Almost like haggling? It's so strange!

I think it's safe to say mark's wins.

But I ain't gonna be accepting coins as payment unless it is an obscenely large amount.

Good for you. I'm going to accept coins for payment all the time.

Well, while we wait for more than two ideas for saveable rules to come in and/or tomorrow afternoon to come, let's talk value.

One unit of metal would become 250 coins of that metal--say, 250 gold marks. The king will only let some licensed smiths make coins, and will sell gold at one unit to 200 marks. Similarly with silver marks; the king has said that one gold mark is worth 10 silver marks, and one aluminum mark would be worthy 10 gold marks. A silver mark is worth 2 copper marks. One unit of silver and two of copper would become 5,000 pennies; a copper mark is worth 5 pennies. Sound okay?

Sounds good I think but without rough prices for other things it's only a guess.

I just wanted to make sure that the relative prices of the metals made sense.

So, how much would you be willing to sell a unit of iron, steel, or fuel for, mesor?

The king will probably pay for at least part of his imports with marks. The part that isn't tribute or taxes, of course.

Part is fine the king will have other things I value more to make it worth accepting some coins but it'd have to be probably 30% coins at max.
A nation that has mines to produce that wealth would not have a great deal of need for more.

It'll be other trade materials or equipment for war I'll need more then coins, Food and horses especially will be worth a lot with my people depending on how much I have at the time.

But I suppose looking at things I can see a few uses for coins with other groups in the game so I guess I'll have to accept some so long as something else is included along with the coins to make it a more profitable bargain for my people.
