How much game is there on the tundra? Maybe they could bring in enough to support 1,500 people. Also, remember how a while back I said you'd need a housekeeper for every few people? Do you have a good reason why your mercenaries don't need cooks, maids, whatever?

Great would he be able to start with enough weapons , armor and horses for over 4000 people?
Considering he would of had to have bought all of it?
Plate armor for 50 people would of cost a fortune in itself not including the weapons.

Read the backstory, the company was once a lot larger, those that remain have been picked up over the years, generally when someone joins a mercenary group they bring their own weapon I'd assume. As for plate-mail isn't expensive, so long as you aren't wearing full plate armor, they only have chest pieces as plate-mail, it'd be ridiculous to assume anyone but knights had full plate :P

No good reason I just forgot to add them :| Fixing now.

I suppose but an entire army coming in fully armed for war?
Does kind of throw off the balance a bit.
You have more soldiers then 2/3 of the other nations and groups in the game.

One last thing: Your mercenary band's 4,100 people is more than half the entire population of the nearest province. Care to explain how your mercenaries find enough work?
Explain this or make your population more reasonable and you will be in.

And remember that work would likely need to come from one of us.
So if we are not at war then your people will starve and die unless you go with the same idea one of our orders did.

His rank and file soldiers also have secondary skills that allow them to produce food or other materials they can trade.

It means his soldiers are less skilled then a full time soldier but gives him much more flexibility considering his small numbers.

The Band started further south near the coast, and Alfred lead them north to secure a fortress to call their own. As they traveled young men joined the Band dreaming of honor, riches, and the like, and this continued all the way to where the base is already located. By that time some of those who had joined had already left, but many stayed due to Alfred's way of leading. Though currently I only have 2,000 full-time soldiers, which may change in the future to even less if I see the need. The women who accompanied the Band are wives of men in the band so that'd explain their presence as well.

Hmm that would work more or less although great there is one thing I'd like to add to his soldiers.
Could we limit them to iron weapons and armor?
Since they come with no means of producing there own we could limit them to a small number with equipment above the standard iron kit which would be much easier to explain then 2000 mercs with top of the line equipment.

What I want to know is where even 2,000 mercenaries can find employment from a single small fortress. If they were spread all throughout the kingdom I'd buy it, but, again, the nearest province is only 7,000 people, and they don't all live on your doorstep.

He has a point in this game there are no enormous populations.

And even 2000 men in a mercenary army is a bit much in once place.

Although I may hire some of you since my army contains 0 cavalry.

Great about what I mentioned earlier.
For fairness sake should those without access to the materials themselves start off with only iron weapons and armor?
So that those who have chosen to have the materials available to themselves begin the game with an advantage in that area.

Sensible, unless they want a really big debt to the metalworking fiefs, who would need to start off with less steel themselves.

Yup.
Hence why in the army details I sent only my personal guard regiment has steel so less then 1/5 of my total force has got steel.

When you have time can you give me an exact number for how much gold silver steel and iron I will begin with?
And how much 1 gold bar is actually worth in this game so I can begin working on trade agreements?
I need to get food in :) rather a lot of it, 8500 units of food.
