Over the years the Prussian front had barely moved. The Poles were ensconced in Gdansk and were defeating the Prussian sorties, but they lacked the forces to push into Brandenburg and end the war. While all their forces were tied up fighting the Prussians the Swedes had been steadily pushing south into Lithuania. The battles were many and bloody. In the second siege of Gdansk the Poles sallied forth to drive off the seemingly insane Prussian commander. Who besieges a city with inferior numbers? That's OUR job!
The Prussian commander rushed his cavalry into a useless charge, and was soon repulsed.
Our cavalry counter-charged and eliminated the Prussian artillery.
Then it was just a matter of concentrating firepower.
Victory was had and the troops returned to their barracks to be retrained and issued new recruits.
In the next siege the Prussians launched an assault. Our artillery finally proved itself effective, especially when deploying canister shot.
The battle got quite bloody and street-by-street fighting only made it moreso.
The Prussian line infantry were defeated, but proved their superior quality in the losses they inflicted.
After all that achieved nothing it was decided, against much outcry, that the borders should revert to their pre-war positions. Thus Gdansk was returned and peace was gained. This freed up most of the Polish army to go into battle wherever needed. Soon the Prussians even sought to open trade between our nations.
