Chapter One: I Have No Idea What I'm Doing Here

Technology: We have begun research on a heretical invention of the Prussians; it's a knife that slides into your gun. We assume it is shot out of the end, yet in our clashes this never happened. As such our best and brightest are quite flummoxed by this illogical development. None the less we continue to study the problem.

Politics: A war, already being referred to as "The Great Northern War" has begun. Sweden started it by declaring war on Russia, and immediately angering everyone whom they border, except Prussia. Of course heretics must be expected to stick together, as otherwise we would eradicate them.

In negotiations with Prussia we convinced them to exchange East and West Prussia, thus uniting their lands. Shortly after this they foolishly decided to invade Saxony. Unfortunately we could not get there in time to save Saxony, but we did quickly reclaim West Prussia, and now threaten Berlin. The garrison sallied forth, but there was far too few of them for them to be effective. They were ridden down as they fled the field.

The Hateful Heathen Turks took our involvement in other wars as an oppurtunity to declare war on us, and our steadfast and faithful ally Russia proudly strode forward to help us fend off this unprecedented offence! SLAV POWER!

Also the fool Austrians failed to see the self-evident logic of joining in a sort of "Three Emperors League" with ourselves and Russia.

Economy: We have attempted to strengthen the economy by building whatever looked most useful at the time.

Also we have begun to recruit professional musketeers wherever possible.

If everyone could repost their unit requests that would be great. Are artillery actually functional in this game? How do I tell if a province is about to rebel?

EDIT: There are no screenshots because FRAPS doesn't seem to be working. I will be investigating this and will try to have it fixed in time for Chapter Two.

Are artillery actually functional in this game?

Yes Artillery is fully functional and extremely powerful in this game ESPECIALLY if you get the right shots for them. A well placed cannon shot can remove entire groups of enemies.

How do I tell if a province is about to rebel?

Well for one they warn you (I suggest having some army in places that can rebell) but you have to look at a locations stats and it will tell you its public order.

If it has negative public order they will rebel (or really low public order).

You should have 1-2 artillery units in all armies that also include infantry (So all armies, except for raiding groups of cav). Keep in mind that the first artillery is fixed. You place it once, and it's there forever. Take an extra minute to double check whether there is a hill right in front of them and if they can reach the walls.

Cavalry can only be used from flanks, on a target that has already fired a volley, or weak units, like artillery, militia and mob. The statement that cavalry is weak is a load of crap, but you can not simply right click anymore.

Personally i started by turning Tannenberg and Gardinas into schools, with Cracow set on Empiricism, which allowed me to - in a few turns - rush to "Fire by rank" and completely wipe every army, winning the campaign by 1716.

It's no wonder that your troops broke then. As fervent Catholics they probably objected to your general's drinking, womanizing and other poor morals. 

Also, what troops routed? Please tell me that they were Empire's equivalent of dirty peasants.

Chapter Two: Is That even Possible?

Following the fall of West Prussia the Polish forces advanced into Brandenburg, but soon they were repulsed.


As the Austrians were already at war with the Prussians an alliance was reached

However minor issues caused it to fall apart and a more informal araingement was reached. Truly the enemy of our enemy is our friend.

The first pitched battle soon began.


It opened with the Polish artillery delivering a (not so) devastating barrage.


The Prussians forsaked their artillery entirely and advanced into battle.


The Polish cavalry commander was over-eager and launched a premature charge.

...It failed.

The battle was joined and the superior Polish numbers prevailed, leaving them in control of the field.


The odds were not too satisfying.


Shortly thereafter, the Prussians demonstrated their inexplicably competent logistics and soon had a whole stack ready for battle.


It didn't go well. Despite having superior defences the Polish army fell apart and barely touched the Prussians.


As well the Polish artillery remained lacklustre. However, that small hump was very scared.


Under concerted pressure the Polish army crumbled.

The Swedish army finally mounted an attack on Poland and they raided deep into Lithuania. They went into battle against some militia and utterly trounced them.
Reportedly the militia ran before even firing a volley.

There is a report on our technological process in the works. (READ: I need to take more screenshots.)

All in all Poland has had a bad few years, but there is an army in place to recapture West Prussia, after which the plan is to sit tight and rebuild our forces. Unless otherwise ordered.
