Adamantite (Armor v/s Weapons)
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:38:04 pm »

Hi, I got that adamantite is the best material to do army supplies with, but
which one would be better?.

I read somewhere (another forum, searching in google first, lol) that adamantite is a terrible material
for stunt weapons.

So, before making a full set of everything with adamantite, to not lose the material, which
would you/do you do in your fortress that is useful?.

A full set of armor or some weapon?

Adamantine edged weapons are the most powerful weapons in the game short of artifact weapons. However adamantine helmets and breastplates are also very powerful. Personally the order that I do it in is adamantine helms->swords->breastplates/mail shirts. Never make adamantine hammers or other blunt weapons.

And if you aren't opposed to a little bit of cheating then you can make infinite adamantine by minting coins and then melting them down again.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Nitpick: there is no such thing as "adamantite" in Dwarf Fortress - the deep metal is called "adamantine".

Battleaxes are blunt or edge?.

(sorry for the stupid question)
Edged, of course, though soldiers may occasionally slap enemies with the flat of the blade or strike them with the pommel, both of which are blunt attacks.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Edged.  Swords and axes are the best adamantine weapons, spears benefit too.  Hammers and maces are (part of) the reason they call it "cotton candy."

Thanks!.

Ok, I (I mean, one of the dwarves, lol) made 3 full sets or adamantine armor (common ones).

I created a militia squad, 5 members.

I enter the "e"quip menu.

I unselected everything for all members.

I started "applying" the armor sets to the first 3 soldiers.
(A -> specific armor -> +adamantine breastplate +, etc etc etc)

2 of them went to the stockpile and equipped (i think) them.
(well,. they are in their inventory, I don't know if they equipped them but I hope so)

But the 3rd one no, he didn't go to the stockpile and is still wearing his "civilian" cloth set.

Any clue of why this can happen?

Also, another (maybe) problem is that I have in the stockpile (for example) a breastplate.
But if I try to make one soldier to equip it, it doesn't show in the menu.
(it shows all breastplate in red color, which I assume are the ones "already equipped")

Slashing attacks benefit most from stronger materials.
If I have access to adamantine, I favour axes. If I only have access to steel, I favour picks. If I have to make do with iron or bronze, I favour spears.

50 out of 51 attacks with axes should be edged.

Actually, "better" materials vary depending on the weapon. Edged weapons do best with sharp materials, like steel. Blunt weapons do best with dense materials, like copper.
