Other towns??
« on: September 23, 2012, 09:45:24 pm »

I remember a year or 2 back when I tried to get into dwarf fortress and failed miserably and quite that you were able to start a fortress game in with another town. I've been trying to do that again just for fun but I can't figure out how or is it disabled now as the embark turns grey when I try to.

You can reclaim fallen fortresses or use a tool like Just Embark.

I'm not talking about fallen fortresses. I mean like a town, lets say a human settlement with the humans still living in it. You used to be able to do this if not still possible which I'm hoping it is somehow.

Just a note here, but I seem to remember that several versions ago Toady changed it so that if you embark on a town then everyone there is treated as "hostile" rather then "friendly". The result is that the entire town descends upon your starting seven dwarves and tears them limb from limb in an extremely short amount of time after you embark. I guess it's possible that this might only happen if you were at war with the humans, but be warned just in case.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

This problem can be solved by running into a building, locking all doors out, and digging down. Then flood the streets with magma!
Or reclaim, that seemed to drive out the tall ones.

So if you use "Just Embark", and the creatures in the town are actually friendly when you embark, can you then make war on them when you're ready?
