So I have a royal bedroom...
« on: September 23, 2012, 03:11:40 pm »

I've got a new fortress (about one or two years old). I discovered my expedition leader had been fired and a mayor had been elected. She was feeling miserable, so I decided to build her what she wanted. After digging a few rooms and placing furniture, I checked the room display (the Shift-R one) to check their quality and found two royal bedrooms. I knew of one of them, it was my communal bedroom (having a legendary engraver rocks :D). The other one was new however, and I decided to check it out. It belonged to a woodworker and their spouse. It was a 2x3 room with a bed and a chest inside. Some tattered clothes were strewn on the floor. All walls and floors were rough. It did not even have a door. Yes, I double and triple checked if it was indeed a royal bedroom, and it was. The only thing I can think of is that it's partially dug out of hematite, but I guess that wouldn't increase the value so much.

So, is this a bug? If not, what happened?

By that logic, you shouldn't be able to play dwarves because they don't show thinking ability.

It's the hematite. Ores and gems can make rooms valuable enough to become royal.

Yes, but hematite isn't even that valuable. I vaguely recall trying to do a royal room in a previous fortress, and that one was dug out of platinum. It was a proper room, about 9x9, I think. I still had to smooth and engrave it to make it royal.

Are there any artifacts in there?

He likes gold, native gold, trees that are made of gold, and tungsten. He likes cats for their haunting meows. He needs dwarf fortress to get through the working day. When possible, prefers to consume Potatoes, cheese, cow milk. Absolutely detests elves. And spiders.

Masterwork furniture will do it too, especially if decorated with valuable gems.
