nations are chosen at random

not every position is equal in the game, and many seem as undesirable. if players could chose freely, no agreement would be reached

generaly speaking, turkey and england have the strongest position strategicaly speaking, but from a negotionaly standpoint, they dont have many friends

germany, austria and italy have very difficult, vulnerable positions, but have a lot of leverage on negotiations, and are very flexible in choices

meanwhile france and russia have the best positions in total, being both forces in negotiation and placement.

that however, only really matters when each player is of nearly equal skill

Anyway, so do we have to really wait 20 hours for this to start?

it will start the moment the 7th player joins

if in 20 hours nobody joins, the game will start with less players, but that is no fun at all.

after the game has started, players can still join.  if that happens before the first move happens, there are no drawbacks to taking over

Jolly good, what what.

Not the faintest clue what's happening. Still, it's all in good fun, innit?

((See this is making myself look incompetent, thereby convincing others I am not a threat))

Hooray! Hooray for Russia!

I would make a communist joke, but Russia wasn't communist in 1901. All hail the Tzar!

Ah, Diplomacy. I remember playing this game as Russia and getting my ass kicked because I was a noob. I did manage to get... halfway to total victory though? Mostly by pissing everybody off, if I remember correctly.

Anyways it looks like I'm too late to join, so posting to watch (and hopefully snag a place in the next game).

Maybe if seven people get on the waitlist we could start another game? Is anybody else waiting for a chance to play diplomacy?

Ooooooooooh shit, diplomacy. People, shit just got real. There's an amount of backstabbery around Paranoia levels. I played a game as france, ended up being pushed into England after they got eliminated, then survived till the endgame then got roflstomped by Russia, who then got torn to bits by their 'allies'.
