Solider wont pick up a weapon

I have a squad of soldiers and all but one got a weapon and armor. He got his armor but wont pick up a weapon. i have them set to pick up a melee weapon of choice and everything but he still wont pick one up. What should i do?

He probably prefers wrestling. Assign him to a specific weapon/weapon type if you'd prefer him to weapon spec.

Are you sure you have enough weapons? Woodcutters may have claimed some axes.

Try to give the squad a station order, that sometimes helps with equipment issues.

I figured it out, my stocks were saying i had over 50 weapons but when i tried to pick a specific weapon for the solider it said i only had the ones the rest of my army was already using i reclaimed this fortress so that might have to do with the supply inaccuracy

If it's a reclaim, it could be that some weapons are still forbidden.
