Will dwarves that are attached to an old weapon swap for better?
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:07:32 pm »

I have a squad of 10 axedwarfs, many are attached to a steel battleaxe.  Before I blow lots of adamantine wafers on battleaxes, if I make 10 of them, and update the uniform, will they switch to the better weapon?  Or will they hang on to the weapon their "attached to"?

In my experience?

They'll hang on to their weapon, but maybe if you forbid or autodump it, it might work.

Thanks for advice, I decided on letting them keep their weapons and start a speardwarf squad with fresh adam spears.  May as well let the axedwarfs keep their precious.

Reportedly, this bug was fixed and they now change to the better weapons.

I haven't noticed yet whether it's fixed in 34.11, but even in older versions, if I temporarily set a squads uniform to not include a weapon, then wait a while until they've all adjusted their inventory, then assign a new weapon, that seems to work. However, any weapons that were "attached" may not get put into appropriate stock piles as the tend to get dropped where they are, and part of the attachment mechanism seems to include marking them forbidden. Unforbidding any weapons laying around on the floor allows a hauler to come put it away, though.
