Lucas looked at the second engine, a look of disgust on his face. His shirt was rolled up to his elbows and a toolbelt was thrown over his shoulder, one of its tools in his right hand while his left hand sat on the butt of his laser pistol. His vest had been left in his hastily prepared quarters, and the various grease and dirt that was one of the "benefits" of being in engineering already had started to leave its mark on his shirt - and he hadn't even started on anything yet! He thought that perhaps he'd get a little work done on engine before...
He was brought back to reality when he heard a lethargic alarm klaxon sound, and his head turned towards the nearby communications console - the ((thing that's like the lights on a police vehicle; idk at the moment)) was flashing but due to its age was making the most god-awful attempt at a *beep* sound Lucas had ever heard. Well at least he'd have his attention away from the mostly-ruined engine. He dropped his toolbelt onto the floor - making sure to replace the tool he held - before approaching the comms console and inquiring as to the problem. He received very little - to which he attributed to his FNG status aboard the ship, hell he hadn't even been introduced to the other crewmembers and had only met the woman in the bar...and as always when it came to women he had already forgot her name. But he knew she was an "entertainer" - he could "smell" an "entertainer" a mile off. He hadn't anything against "entertainers", but...
He shook his head and inquired again as to what was wrong. Apparently a pirate ship had targeted them as a potential target and had begun firing at the Salvation - three missiles were on their way. Lucas punched the communications console a third time.
"This is engineering; I suggest we try and shoot the missiles "out of the sky" so to speak and return fire at the pirates, preferably in a way that we might be able to capture the crew and ship. Failing that we could try and bluff..." Lucas stumbled as the ship rocked slightly - something had hit it. He wiped the sweat now forming on his brow and inquired again as to what happened but got no reply. He turned away from the console and thought for a second.
"I'll head to the crew lounge and see what's up." He turned towards the door and headed in the general direction of the lounge, taking a small data slate from a "pouch/holster" on his belt and bringing up a floorplan he had managed to download from the ships computer just before they left on this "pirate hunting" mission.
It didn't take him long to arrive at the lounge. Just as he turned into the corridor leading to the lounge he stoped. The door leading to the lounge had opened, and Lucas instinctively reached for his laser pistol, relaxing when he saw it was one of the crew that opened the door - plus Lucas was too much of a gentleman to shoot someone in the back and who is apparently unarmed. The man turned, and Lucas caught a fragment of speech, or what he assumed was a fragment..
"Where are the grenade launchers stowed?" The man said. Lucas began to approach the lounge a little cautiously. He didn't hear it, but the man responded to someone inside.
"I'm going - just wondering where we put them, that's all." The man turned and started off at a fast pace, slowing down to eye Lucas.
"Introductions later - right now it appears you have an important job to do." Lucas said, walking past the man and into the lounge. Another man scurried past him, the look of a doctor about him. He seemed scarred and paid no heed to Lucas as he past him. Lucas turned to the others in the lounge and was just about to open his mouth and inquire as to WHAT is exactly happening when a woman ((I'm assuming Shia is a woman, correct me if I'm wrong)) not only paid him no heed but almost shouted at those assembled in the lounge.
"Copacetic! Move, move, move! Get to the launch bay and suit up! We have a counter offensive to launch!" Although there was no large crowd to "push" him along, Lucas was the second closest to the door, the woman striding past him in a rush, and he was pulled alongside the others who followed her. Counter offensive? Great, first day on a new ship and already in deep. Perhaps it would have been better to stay on the station with the old merchant...
Lucas had no idea where they were taking him - he sort of had to make like he was rushing to a room he knew he was going - and found they had led him to the armoury (I would assume). As he entered the armoury, the woman began almost instantly getting changed into "battle-gear" as did the others. Lucas soon found himself being handed piece-after-piece of space suit and battle garb. One of the others thought aloud as he dressed.
"Hey, get someone ready to pick us up when we finish..." Lucas turned away and tuned out from the conversation, slowly starting to get prepared. He didn't know what was happening, but he did know that the feeling in his gut usually meant that whatever was going to happen probably wouldn't end well...
Ok so LONG post, but I had internet connection problems since Thursday and couldn't post until now - and to be honest I had to sort of link the stuff together "in character" - because I wanted to do it that way at the moment. So now I should probably do my skills. Heh, fyi first time I've used the "spoiler" thing in a forum.
