So then, Uk. Ranger, a few things:
1. I've said this before, we shouldn't sell the small craft. I'm against even getting the prices for them. And hiring new ones with the money is tantamount to herasy.
2. Converting cargo/docking space into important places is risky. We know the frequency of them being breached. I agree with 4&5 though.
3. Increase priority of medbay, also add a skiff missile or two to alleviate the lack of PD.
Max will dock the ship.

We could also possible convert a couple of the nuclear rods into a warhead for one of the stealth missiles. As a sort of 'get out of jail free' card in case we're doomed and the jump drives are out of action. It's illegal, but could save us.

I can't understand this not look at option position....

Yes, cargo shuttle is good for trading with surface planets (and for storing important cargo) But right from the beginning it is hanging here and doing nothing! Had we sold it in the first port we could have better ship and easier battles
Red rocket is good for boarding\misc tasks, and I rather keep it if price is not really good (and technically Shia owns it)
Fighters...  they will be good after a proper upgrade... right now they are just the first stage of our missiles... we will not be that lucky to have asteroids to hide them. Proper fighters will rape them in dogfighting. As well as a decent point defense. We need fighters to protect us, not attack other ships (cause we have our big guns for that)

As for not spending money to get more small crafts... pfff... imagine getting a good, modern fighter with good pilot for some modest salary per week. It will be far more useful than getting second turret. Buying such fighter would cost us way more than loaning it

2. Converting cargo/docking space into important places is risky. We know the frequency of them being breached.
If I remember correctly, the dock hasn't been hit once... As for cargo bays, i am sure that it's a matter of luck. I doubt that cargo bays are more likely to get hit than engines or weapons.

Skiff missile it may be useful, but I think the GM will give us a big list of missiles and railgun shells too chose from

I doubt that we have nuclear scientists... And it's too illegal to my taste. Any inspection will find it, radiation is hard to hide.

1. The cargo shuttle has more cargo space then the salvation. We wouldn't be able to carry the rewards from the MMC without it. Also the key word was I'm against selling so we can hire new ships. I'm fine with hiring, just not selling and using the money for hiring. *sighs* get the prices then. I still say don't sell.
2. True, but a matter of luck is still a chance, especially with an auxiliary reactor. Also the dock not getting hit is probably also just a matter of chance.
3. True.
4. I guess you're right, that was a bit naive of me.

Nothing stopped us from loading minerals in unmodified dock bay,  that kind of cargo can tolerate bad conditions. We have something like 10 000 cargo space here, the only problem is loading\unloading and lack of right conditions (temperature\air pressure mostly)
Keeping cargo shuttle as a cargo bay is weird, because we may convert dock space into a cargo bay directly and I suspect it's not expensive at all

Let's imagine a situation... we sell all our small crafts, spend cash on upgrades and get our dock filled with hired pilots and their crafts. What is bad in this situation (as long as we keep making money to pay wages)

Than let's remove anything valuable from the ship :) Then it will  not get hit :) Useful space is better than empty space by definition Even more: doubling key systems is a good  idea( I'd really like the second reactor room, either for fission reactors or cheap civilian ones without the need to remove damaged reactors from our main reactor room. )

1. And what about the things that can't just go in bad conditions?
2. Just a feeling. Anyway, availability may change, and hired pilots would doubtless have other demands. Also, they may not be willing to go into very dangerous situations, or demand a bonus for it. Anyway, would you sell say, a house, and use the money to rent a house?
3. We've already established that the reactors and other important things are well protected - not right next to the edge of a ship, as a docking bay is. Would you put a nuclear reactor in the area that excessively dangerous? I don't even know why we're arguing about this, we couldn't even repair all our reactors, and lack the expertise to set up a nuclear reactor anyway, as you've already pointed out.

That's why I want to convert one dock place in a proper cargo bay with proper conditions... Or buy shuttle sized container and keep it in the docking bay.

If I have a stable source of income need and I have a reason to move - sure ( of cause I'd prefer to rent my house)

I remember such words about fuel tanks, not sure about reactors.

That is a problem, we should study our options

Buying new may be a better solution than repairing damaged ( of cause we'll repair them later, but short time solution is always an option)

Making nuclear warheads and using standard fuel cells for standard reactors are absolutely different things. I suspect that it's not hard to do, if we can get a reactor legally. You mixing my intentions to get more information about the the possibility and doing something

1. True, we could buy large storage containers...
2. Hmm... Just depends with people then. I'd personally prefer to own it.
3. *looks back* whoops, my bad. Still, I'd assume that they'd be in a safe location.
4. Ah. With absolutely no experience in setting up nuclear reactors, forgive me if I was mistaken. I assumed it would be tricky, along with actually transferring the power to things that needed it.

I know this is just for information, I just feel like getting my views across for some reason.

Not really going to happen. Reactor grade uranium isn't even close to weapongrade nuclear material. Besides, the fuel rods are made of Thorium anyway.(Which was not mentioned till now, but...). Anything more complicated than a dirty bomb or a meltingwarhead (Ie, melting into a ships hull) is not going to happen, and having a overheating mass of nuclear material radiating in all directions kinda defeats the point of stealth.

Actually, the cargo bays have a +- four times larger chance of being hit than the engines or weapons. Might chance when I get to making the latest changes to the design.

Uhm, about that. Still have to do some work on that.

They are. Reminds me of the fact that I still have to finish the map of the Salvation. (I could give you a written description of the decks, but I'm not sure about everything yet.)

There's a difference between your current, fusion reactors (haven't mentioned this, but planned to elaborate on these in the next post) and a nuclear power cell.

I think he mixes high quality and luxurious... As far as I understand that something like chocolate and equal to normal food, just taking less place

Let's only put things we can deal with getting hit in the vulnerable areas--most important stuff is safely deep in the ship.

News Headlines

AL-568 Virus Pandemic Reaches Kumat

With now more than 7 planets infected, millions having died already, and billions being affected the devastating epidemic has become a real threat to the Nation. Seeing the recent infection of the Kumat system, the alliance has decided to extend the current quarantine with 5 sectors. Million of refugees are leaving the infected planets, despite the Alliance outlawing all travel within infected systems. Massive refugee fleets have formed around the disabled jump points, and things are becoming bleak for them. Their overcrowded ships are often not meant for prolonged flights, and their supplies are running out.

With no cure in sight, the alliance can do nothing else than enforce the quarantine and prevent further infection.

"Pirate Threat overstated"

According to Alliance spokesman, Davy Decumber, the Pirate threat is being blown way out of proportion by private security firms and insurance compagnies, in order to drive up prices. In other ways, this means that the Alliance will not follow the plea of the outer sectors for extra intervention forces.

Quote
While others care about the ship, Diana spend her time hanging with military in local bars looking for rumors and opportunities. She will happily brag about the fight with pirate frigates (slightly improve the real story by making frigates better armed and armored then they were and omitting the part when salvation ran away from pirate reinforcements)
You find some soldiers who are rather interested by your story. It appears that they are bound for the Kumat system, in order to enforce the quarantine. It does appears that the information you had must have been interesting, as you get an invititation from the captain to discuss some matters over tea.
