Why?  Too much time and effort for that.  We're better off shooting them.
And I was more thinking moving behind asteroids for cover from shots.  In theory, it will block some missiles and shots.  Assuming we are closer to the asteroids than they are, it will be easier for us to fire through.  I wasn't thinking of hiding.

i was thinking
a: set up guns on asteroids to anoy them
b: throw asteroids at them. if they brake then its a LOT more bits of rock heading towards them.

That may have been a good idea if we knew they were coming beforehand and we were the A-team or Macgyver.

I dislike it. We are hiding behind asteroid, then
1) missile hits an asteroid, it explodes, we are getting hit by the debris
2) Railgun shell(s) hits the asteroid, it get's impulse from it, and we get hit by asteroid that suddenly changed it's momentum
3) We have one less direction to dodge

In fact I think we need to maintain safe distance from  asteroids, unless we plan to ambush, but I doubt that we can hide a cruiser from any adequate sensors

...Hm, for booze smuggling weapons would be a plus and we could be Space All Capone, but we'd be breaking the law which is bad. So let's consider other options. Any hibernating, cute, fast-breeding animals we could buy fairly cheap? Feed a few, let them breed, get them into hibernation, sell for profit to lonely asteroid miners.

Nope. Just nope. That's my vote. We'd have a better time with commodities and that is only a minor thing. What we should be worrying about is all of this escorting we are supposed to be doing... * cough* *cough*

I figured a missile hits an asteroid, it'll get blown the hell up.  Only a fraction of the meteor would hit us, if any, and it would be much less damage than a missile would do.
Railgun shell hits asteroid, it'll lose a ton of momentum, and the asteroid shouldn't hit us very hard.  Not as hard as the slug would have, at least.
We don't really want to dodge into them, really.  The asteroids would hopefully be between us.
And we can't hide.  We have a visual on them, and they have one on us.  Sensors aren't a factor here.

But, if you don't like that idea, how about telling the other merc to distract the ships, as they have PD, while we flank them?  That'll put us away from the asteroids and draw fire from the miners.

Radio the smaller ship with bigger guns to strafe, we will take our position and make potshots with our lasers and railgun arrows. Send the fighters along with him. I think we can use th red rocket as an ambush if they come slose enough, just kill the engines, hiding next to an asteroid.

Power lasers and railguns and thrusters.

Ber eady to relay power to plasma cannon incase they get near enough so we can blind side them with a plume of 4th-state.

I'd not treat the merc as our subordinate, because he is not, but I think that turning off engines to get extra precise shots is a nice idea for our cruiser, especially if we will get protected by PD freighter

Fighters are the one that should hide, because unguided rockets are effective only at short range

Well I don't think we should just send the fighters up to strafe alone. Also load the fighters with the missiles. They should be able to be more accurate, being at a closer distance and all.

Missiles are loaded long time ago, it's their only weapon, so strafing is just not needed. They are more like dive bombers - get near, deliver the payload and GTFO

So hiding them  may be the best option, especially considering that this will  be a long and tough fight. Every force needs hidden reserves

Not unless you are hiding some ship schematics in your rack. We don't know the best place to shoot unless it's blaringly obvious (The engines are near the jets, etc.)

I mean, we probably could try, but as Got said, we don't know how.  And there would still be the problem of the crew.
Now, we may be able to capture one of the ships completely intact.  There are at least two here.  If we just tear one of them a new asshole in record time and hail the other, he may surrender.  That's probably the most likely way we could do it, but it would still be pretty damn hard to do.  It would rely heavily on luck.  And probably wouldn't work unless we roll a twenty (or six.  I'm assuming you're not using a six sided dice, though I've never GM'd, and probably never will, so I honestly have no idea).

Sometimes I think that you don't read GM's posts. This frigates, are, most likely, only the beginning, we'll get  more enemies. It's going to be a hard battle not the one like we had before. I kinda expect hard damage
